In-ter-cep-tor! I know. It's a Ford. But damn, if it isn't awesome. →[More:]I'll take one in green please. Bullet-proof. Like the Green Hornet's car.
I will never understand chunky heels or 'chunky' cars. Instead of looking brutishly powerful, they look squozen down or snub-nosed and cut down to size.
I'm still all about the Lotus Elise, even though I'm about one uncomfortable inch too tall for it.
The Interceptor name could backfire on them. The police cruisers are known as the Police Interceptor variant of the Crown Victoria. They also have a penchant for exploding when rear-ended (and several police officers have lost their lives this way). I'm not sure I would want any association between that and a new product.
As far as the car itself goes, I think Ford is trying to play catchup with the Chrysler 300/Dodge Magnum/Dodge Charger platform. I hope Ford doesn't invest too much in it, though, because I think that is a kind of niche market that is already largely filled.
I don't like it. I also don't like the Chrysler 300C, which is obviously where they have targeted this model. It will enjoy about as much success as a PT Cruiser clone would - approaching zero because, as noted above, the niche market is already filled and there is no room for more. Also, yeah, it's still a poorly-built Yank Tank that will fall apart after two years.
Eideteker, the Elise is nice but, for pure minimalist driving (and no headroom restrictions), you need to look at the Atom. Now, that's a car built for driving.
In the auto restoration world you sometimes hear a car described as a "20/20", that is, it looks good at 20 MPH or from 20 yards away, but not when you actually get a good look at it sitting still, let alone get inside.
As far as I'm concerned new American cars are at best 20/20. The PT Cruiser is a prime example. They looked kinda cool at first when you saw ads for them or passed them on the road; then you noticed the shit construction and the throwaway rental car interior.
Goose: You can shut the gate on this one, Maxie... it's the duck's guts! Barry, MFP Garage Mechanic: [excitedly] She sips nitro... with Phase 4 heads! 600 horsepower through the wheels! She's meanness set to music and the bitch is born to run! Goose: [looking at Max just staring at the engine] He's in a coma, man!
