30 December 2006

Everything I touch turns to crap. My second post was a double post. Dammit!
If the Meta-verse were a sitcom, I would be the bumbling, accident-prone neighbor lady.

It's probably something just about everyone has done on MeFi. At least the one you were doubling was also posted today, so is a 'current topic' on teh intarwebs. I posted something once and someone dug up the double from, like, four years earlier. The search function on MeFi is crap. And the memories of the Double Post Police are long.

If it makes you feel better, I spent an hour yesterday working on a post that I was sure wasn't a double after several searches, only to find, just before I was about to submit it, that it was a double of a post from 2000.

I bet your search for a double was borked because the search engine hadn't indexed the first post yet. No harm, no foul there, I think. My first two posts were doubles. Meh.

And if the metaverse were a sitcom, I'd be the extra walking through the shot.

it's nothing to worry over. If you do it habitually you might get a ban, so what? So that's the worst that could happen. I've really doubled once, and a then when jessamatt / mattamyn saw too much overlap with an already-open thread. There are very intelligent people in the community and that can be intimidating. I'm not one of them, and I can't make myself smarter, only more careful ;-)

It's really not that big of a deal. No one cares except you, really. Now stop touching stuff and turning it into crap!

But that could be a good thing if you're in the fertilizer business... ;)

It was just bad luck is all, SassHat. It was a good post!

I can understand double posts from weeks, months and years previously. You stumble upon something new to you and the search function at Mefi sucks aaaaand ... it happens.

I find the double posts from within a few minutes of each other odd. People will think of the same thing, work up a post and then post within a few minutes of each other. I suppose you can chalk it up to coincidence but it's still weird.
