29 December 2006

Friday Indie Rock First track: Califone - Black Metal Valentine. No, it's not black metal - more like roots Americana played with the experimentalism of jazz.

Bonus Track:
Rock Plaza Central - My Children, Be Joyful. I haven't decided yet if the proper description for this song, in relation to Neutral Milk Hotel, is "influenced by" or "ripped off from", but it's undeniably caught in my head.
Fantastic! I would not complain if you posted more.

I'd say "influenced by". Thanks!

And I wonder why senduit uses Amazon's servers for file hosting.

I didn't realize the Califone track was so short, because I usually just listen to the whole album, and the songs blend together. It's a great album - 2006's Roots and Crowns.

I'm at work now, so I can't post more today.

love Califone, Mats! I played them on the air out here recently at the station. Good choice! By the way, if'n you like that stuff, you should try Norfolk and Western, too.

and i think you're right about the second track, mats. This sounds an awful lot like a NMH cover.

Woo for Califone! I love the new record so much (though it will always be hard for anything to top Roomsound). Coincidentally, I was just out to dinner last night with a friend of mine visiting from out of town, and he said he and Tim Rutili were getting together today to start recording some new tracks for the next possible Califone venture.
