"What are you going to do now?" [More:]
Last night was my last night of vacation. I've been sharing my childhood room with my nephew, him in my old bed, me on an inflatable mattress on the floor. Every morning for the past week, I've awakened to him grinning at me from under his covers, waiting for me to get up.

On Christmas morning, he got a little impatient, and roused me by singing (at a whisper) "Oh, Susannah!" and "I've Been Working on the Railroad."

I open my eyes and smile at him, and try to drift back into slumberland. He starts tapping the side of his bed. Eventually, I pop my head up, which is his cue to sit up in bed and ask me (at normal volume), "So, what are you going to do now?"

So, what are you going to do now?
Your lucky. My niece is not that articulate yet. My parents made us a delayed wedding cake with some black icing. She lit into it. By the time she was done she looked like she had eaten a bat.

Was it licorice flavored?

Nah, chocolate. But it was really dark. But it was just the trim.

I love it when kids make a mess of what they eat. Sometimes it puts me off my meal, but it's worth it.

Dude, I still make a mess of what I eat now. Your welcome.

For some reason, I'm reminded of the "Costumers Only" bathroom in that McD's -- "Get it together and you can use that toilet."

My nephew just told my dad, "The best thing about a Lincoln is its smooth ride. You can't feel any bumps. Maybe when you sell your Ford Taurus you can buy a Lincoln Continental."

I get back to the city today. Maybe we can carouse soon (not tonight, though; got a thousand things to do when I get back).

What're you doing New Years? We're thinking of hitting the Remote.

I'm obliged to show up to a party on the LES for a bit, but I might be wandering back out to Queens before the night is through. All depends on one of the two things that make the world go 'round (the one you can't spend).

What are we gonna do now?

You grow up and you calm down
You're working for the clampdown

Thanks dano - now I've got to put on London Calling. That's what I'm gonna do.

Your nephew is absolutely right about the Lincoln, HJ. I also recommend the heated leather seats. I could live in such a car.

(Happy New Year! : )
