AskMeCha: Wrapping Infant's Christmas Presents? [More:]I have a tendency to wrap everything but isn't it kind of a waste of time to wrap an 8 month old's presents? Especially since both his mom and I know exactly what's in there?
I should note that this our son, not another couple's infant.

Yeah, it's a waste. It's also a waste to even buy them gifts, but so hard to resist! If I could do it differently I wouldn't buy my kids presents until they were 3...they have absofrigginlutely no idea what the hell is going on until then. And even then, they have no idea what's going on, but they want to rip paper and get presents because every one else is.

I used to sort of drape big sheets of wrapping paper over the presents for babies. That way they get to pull it off and reveal the present, like peek a boo, and they enjoy that.

mygothlaundry, that is a superb idea!

iconomy, I don't know. My two and a half year keeps asking to open any and all presents he sees.

But I do agree that its almost impossible to not get them stuff!

That is a really good idea, mgl. Wish I had thought of it!

My daughter's first Christmas had a lot of sippy cups and safety spoons and diapers under the tree. All wrapped, though, because at 11 mos, the paper was all she really cared about.
