"Plus c'est la meme chose, plus ça change" We had a really bad storm here in the PNW Thursday night.

My basement flooded (3 feet of water), 70% of the stuff I owned (including my computer and paintings that friends made and some of my bass gear) is ruined.
But I'm staying at my best friend's house (the one with the dog), the power is back on, Nigella's on TV, The Cretins MC's Xmas party is tonight and I have a date with one of the sexiest women I know next week!

Whoo..!!

Sorry about the flood but it's nice to know you have something to look forward to.

Sounds terrible. Congratulations.

:-( I was wondering this past few days if any of our crowd got stuck in that awful thread. Considered posting a thread, hey, any of you stuck in that awful storm? Realized people without power can't post. Glad to hear you're OK, black8.

That sucks. That sucks massively.

I'm really sorry about the flooding. But I'm also glad to hear that you're OK, that you're staying positive and that you have things to look forward to.

Thanks y'all. All in all, it was a very surreal experience. There was a football game scheduled that day. I'd left work an hour and a half early to try and avoid it, but the game and the weather made for a hellish commute!
A trip that should've taken 15-20 minutes turned into an hour!
After I got home, I noticed all my neighbors were outside. After I parked my bike, one of them asked me if my basement was flooded. I ran around the side of the house to discover a huge lake had taken over every back yard on the block!
I went inside to find about 6 inches of water in the basement. I didn't want to ruin my boots slogging around in sewage, so I started making phone calls. An hour later, the water was about two and half feet deep.

This morning the city sent in cleanup crews. They said that pretty much anything in the water was a health hazard and shouldn't be messed with. I saved my metal bed, anything above water and a bunch of books and stuff I had in plastic containers. But that was about it.

It was just stuff, tho. I faired a lot better than this woman, who lived just a few blocks away from me.

Oh, the linked story is awful! Of all the ways one imagines dying, drowning in your own basement certainly doesn't top the list. So sad.

Very sorry about all your things... especially the art. Are you really going to have to just throw it out? I guess so, huh? :(

Wow, even amid a really shitty day, you're looking up, not down. That says something pretty awesome about who you are and what makes you tick.

Yeah...I have to throw the art out. Fortunately, I can bug Trish, Frito and Kurt for more stuff. I have other works by my late father, so all is not lost.
I didn't have to leave the country in the middle of the night, with only my shirt on my back...but I know people who have. There's no point crying over stuff that I can't do anything about. And the other stuff can be replaced. Sometimes it's two steps forward, one step back but then sometimes I make a couple of great strides. The important thing is to move forward.

Glad you're ok black8 - and your positive outlook is something to aspire to, for me. :D Cheers!

Man, that would have certainly thrown me for a loop, good to hear you're doing ok.

Damn, that sucks. At least you have a good head about it.

It might have been worth it to ruin the boots. I think I would've, anyway.

yeah...but I wear a 14...shoes are a little harder to come by.

Another sorry to hear it but good for you from me, black8.

I can't abide a basement. They creep me out, and they get bugs and flood. I vow never to have one. Or at least never to use one. Brrrrr.

Wow, that sucks. I got through with just a little power loss, and the fireplace kept me warm. It did take me an hour and a half to get home from work Thursday night, though. Part of Croctommy's building fell down and crushed a car, fortunately not his, and he's OK.

You must be the most positive person I have ever (virtually) met. I would be moping around, sulking about how bad things are and you are still upbeat. Kudos to you and I hope you have some great happenings coming to you to justify that upbeat attitude.

Cheers to looking on the bright side of things! I am sorry to hear about your stuff, but glad you made it through alright.

I hope all our bunnies fared well in that crazy storm!

Wow...thanks again youse guys. I talked to my friend Jay in Des Moines (south of Seattle), he just got his power back on today. He said he sat in the dark, freezing his ass off since Thursday.
I dunno if I'm unusually positive -- definitely no Dr. Pangloss. I just try not to worry about stuff I can't do anything about. Every one of my neighbors basements flooded, I'm sure they all lost stuff too.
Anytime anything 'interesting' happens, it makes for a good story -- especially after I get a check from PSU!

Stuff, although we do seem to get attached to it, is just stuff. I'm glad you're okay, black8. And your attitude is ossem!
