Visual Puns! What are the best you've seen?→[More:]
For visual puns, you really can't beat David Suter, who's been doing little illustrations for magazines and the Times for a long time now. Just a couple of easily found examples:
He has a particular style, charcoal blended with frequent use of iconometric perspective. I grew up seeing his stuff in Harper's (the old design). Brilliant, ironic, satirical blending of two or sometimes three concepts, and he does it all on deadline month after month. As with the flagline/tassel above, he has a knack for finding the common elements in two representative items and connecting them.
Mitheral: I confess, I couldn't think of the word for "pictoral representation of a word or phrase" and since I had punnery on the brain, I went with that.
