The AK Miller Auction Consider the strange story of Alex and Imogene Miller of East Orange, VT. They eked out an existence on a small farm. Alex would scrounge rusty nails from burnt buildings to repair his roof. He drove a ratty VW Beetle, and when it died, he found another even more ratty, and another...the rusting carcasses littered his yard.
After their deaths the local church took up a collection so they could be buried in the churchyard, and the state began the process of taking the farm for taxes. That would have been the end of a sad story, except.....
Wow; great tale. I wonder who ended up with the goodies - besides the IRS, that is.

@taz: Hopefully all the people who gave to them, thinking they were destitute.

Wow, this is a great story. Sad that they lived so poor when they were, posthumously, obviously not poor at all.

And I loved the name of the auction, The Opening of King Stutz Tomb, brilliant!

Um, the people who paid $100K apiece for the cars?

The "secret" just seems to be that he wanted to avoid paying taxes.
