Autumn in Texas. All 48 hours of it. So I got that to look forward to.
Yeah we are getting the crazy weather up here in Arky-saw too. The rain is moving in now. Chance of bad storms maybe an isolated tornado. Then later tonight it becomes freezing rain/sleet/snow mixture and then just snow. Tomorrow between 2 to 8 inches of snow (depending on which station you watch) and a high of 27. It is 71 right now.
I'd be upset about being snowed in, but I have been sick and have not left the house since Saturday night so it likely will make no difference. Although I was thinking about going to the doctor tomorrow. Oh well.
I have some houseplants outside and a couple of unplanted shrubs that would be fine in the ground with mulch but might die in the pots above ground. So i guess I need to put on a dust mask or something to keep the wind from making me cough my lungs up and get the damn things in. I've already been sick three times this fall. Fucking ridiculous.
Dude, when I left VA last week for my trip to Dallas, we had had freezing torrential rain and 30-40 mph winds for two straight days. It was absolutely horrific.
We arrived in Dallas and it was mid-70s just about the entire time we were there, and it was good. Those migratory birds have got the right idea.
On the bright side, it's warmed up to -20 °C (-3 °F) today in Edmonton. The wind has died down, so the wind chills aren't as close to -40° as they have been for the last week. And the snow has stopped. And it's sunny!
Think yourself lucky you have seasons at all! Here, all the seasons are almost exactly the same, with different temperatures and amounts of daylight. It's great for the first couple of years, but it really gets boring. What's the point in having a glorious summer that lasts nine months when you have nothing to compare it with?
Actually, it's partly that people in Texas don't know how to drive in winter weather, and partly that when we get winter weather, it's mostly ICE.
I grew up in Buffalo, NY, and the first time we got wintry weather here in Fort Worth, I was out driving the next day (after it thawed and refroze overnight) and ended up doing a 360 on an offramp. Stayed on the road, but it was a real eye-opener.
I hear you, DooHick. I grew up in Tulsa, so 80% of our Winter Weather was sleet/ice/freezing rain, and black ice was a way of life. You kind of get used to it.
In Dallas, at least, when it happens here, you still get a bunch of idiots in F-350s that think just because they have AWD, they're golden and can still do 70 on Central Expressway. That scares me.
I hope we do wind up getting some snow tomorrow, as it'll make for a light work day and some much needed relaxation. That said, I'm glad I got out of the Mavs game and back home before it got/gets bad, especially since I realized 2/3d's of the way to downtown that I forgot my hoodie. Brrrrr.
