27 November 2006

Bottom 3 Points of your extended weekend. [More:]
1. Finding out just before I left on Wednesday that I didn't get the highly lucrative job I had applied for and had done a kickass interview for.
2. Massive traffic backups on the Mass Turnpike.
3. Spilling a big glass of red wine all over the sofa at the house where I was a guest.
yikes!

1. Not seeing my family
2. Notre Dame lost
3. My ribs hurt alot.

1. Big fight between my wife and my mother.
2. Had to work Saturday and Sunday.
3. My cat died.

Sadly, Notre Dame's loss doesn't even make my top 3. Although A&M won, so I guess I broke even football-wise.

1. Almost getting into a fistfight at the laundromat
2. Rainy trafficky drive to thanksgiving dinner.
3. Seeing a few minutes of a censored Pulp Fiction on TV where Samuel L. Jackson's 'goddam' was changed to 'doggone.'

1) The moment during insane Thanksgiving prep when I realized that I turned on the wrong burner on the stove - the one under the glass bowl of creamed onions that I had just pulled out of the oven. Followed closely thereafter by the moment when the bowl actually broke.
2) My entire family stressed out and arguing all day Thanksgiving. :-(
3) Cramps.

brainwidth, I'm so sorry for your loss. My cat disappeared like 6 weeks ago and I know how sad it makes you.

1) I became hooked on a particular video game.
2) The wife lost her keys and blamed it on my addiction to said game. Seriously.
3) Oyster egg pie.
posted by danostuporstar 27 November | 10:21
cracking all those little tiny oyster eggs must be a pain.

1) My weekend wasn't extended (I'm Canadian)
2) ND lost
3) The weekend ended and now I'm back in my soul-sucking lab.

1) Cramping
2) Going to a party (good), where I drank week-old keg beer that made me really sick the next day (bad).
3) Wii envy.

1) Son informed us he is taking a semester or two off and working fulltime at Cracker Barrel
2) Diet? What diet?
3) Only two bad points, so I guess it was a good weekend.

1) hanging out with my creepy, christian-fundamentalist cousin
2) overhearing my mom's whispered, castration-fantasy-laced conversations with said cousin
3) knowing that I was the sometime subject of said conversations

1. Non-stop drive, both ways, between Eugene, OR and Hermosa Beach, CA, to see family. The last early-morning-dark legs of this drive is brutal.

2. TV on constantly at my mom's, which my wife and my daughter do not do well with.

3. We had farmed out our dog to friends for the long weekend and it was not a good time for any of them and now I need to get a wool rug of theirs professionally cleaned.
posted by danf 27 November | 10:51
why, only 3? You all had it easy. (brainwidth, sorry for your cat)

1)everyone was late for the thanksgiving lunch (we had a late lunch instead of dinner so we could actually leave the city for Long Island before midnight).Everyone showed up but on a sliding time scale too which totally messed up my preparations. Those outa towners!
2)kids, at 3 years old, I just cannot handle them. And they know it.
3)I did not get to invite those I wanted for my dinner. I am very sorry I am such a wuss. Anyway, I doubt they would have accepted my invitation.

1) Sister's best friend passed away after long illness.
2) Record snowfall has shut down the city.
3) Not enough Brussels Sprouts in the leftovers and I forgot to take extra Cranberry sauce.

1) Imagining the real reason my sister-in-law's "personal trainer" was invited to Thanksgiving dinner.

2) Aforementioned long, rainy drive 'long I-95. (Crazy-ass truck drivers who like to weave in and out of slippery wet lanes...).

3) Nightmare about car falling apart piece by piece as we drove place to place. First the passenger door fell off when Jon went to open it, then the front bumper, rear wheel...

Ewww. Thanks a lot, honey. We'll be sleeping with the lights on tonight, I guess.

What can I say, I'm a giver. Thanksgiving's all about giving, right? : )

(pass the stuffing, please...)

Imagining the real reason my sister-in-law's "personal trainer" was invited to Thanksgiving dinner.

I do not mean to derail, I am just curious, for my personal reasons obviously :)
would you feel different if it were your sister, rather than your sister in law?

I guess this is one of those situations where if you don't have anything bad to say, don't say anything... Maybe I got one:

1. Taking the kid and her friend ice skating and discovering that I've turned from a decent childhood hockey player steady eddie skater to the proverbial "ether binging inner ear disorder hog on ice", all 220 pounds of me came down with a massive thump on my ass. Lordy, lordy. I kinda pulled myself up by my collar and skated another couple loops so as to prove I wasn't a quitter and then quit.

Wasn't so bad though, I mean I enjoy a good indignity every once and a while, the instant searing pain in the ass not so much, but wadda ya gonna do?

There is a proverb about an ether-binging inner-ear disorder hog on ice?
posted by sciurus 27 November | 11:35
Yes and the upshot of the proverb is no matter how much he begs and pleads don't let that hog go ice-skating, he's been partying too hard and he's just going to end up breaking his goddamn ass.

(I almost forgot. One of me and Hugh's bar buddies in Queens is really sick. That was sad to hear)

1. Discussion with a woman whose professor gave her an assignment involving watching a documentary about prisons: "He said that we couldn't use Prison Break or 0z, but Shawshank Redemption is okay."
2. Couldn't find a CD that I was supposed to return to the person I borrowed it from.
3. Slightly too much butter in the mashed potatoes.

Pretty good weekend, all in all.

We buried my uncle on Friday. He was battling lung cancer, but managed to die quickly of a heart attack. He lived a good life and everyone loved him. So, although we'll all miss him, we can't really complain.

1. massive, night-long insomnia Saturday night in hotel room.
2. meeting a ton of people Who Matter(tm) in a short amount of time. (actually, this was okay - just exhausting.)

3. learning east coast highways the hard way (i.e. during Thanksgiving traffic).
posted by Lipstick Thespian 27 November | 12:51
hugs to jrossi and warbaby: death is a sucky thing to happen because you cannot find ways to joke about it to alleviate the suckiness. So sorry, guys.
