Make me move! Dear Mechasans—
I'm driving my girlfriend out to LA on Friday, which means an assload of time in the car. With all the preparation, we haven't had time to make all those cd mixes that we'd hoped to.
Can y'all help me with some YSI or rapidshare mix albums that are big enough to fill a CD?
I'll post some of the ones that I've done too, so it can be a swaperoo.
Oh, and by the way, I'm gonna be in LA with my girlfriend from Sunday through Tuesday, if anyone wants to get together.

If you like songs about chicken, here ya go.

Okay, I'm up for this although I'm meant to be putting a 2cd "best of Wilco" together tonight. You up for anything at all?
posted by TheDonF 22 November | 13:33
Heh. Yeah, actually. I had a "Best of Wilco" mix tape about six years ago that a friend made, and a tape deck ate it.
posted by klangklangston 22 November | 14:15
Well, six years is somewhat out of date, so I'll post mine up if you want. I can't be doing with AM, so it's got tracks from Being There, Summerteeth, YHF, A Ghost Is Born and Kicking Television.

Other than that, I've got one on the go as I type - just trying to get it to flow a bit better...
posted by TheDonF 22 November | 14:18
Oh yeah - do you have 74 or 80 minute blank CDs?

Oh, and the last song on the second mix above reminded me I had this lurking in my iDisk thingy: 45 mins of Larry Levan at the Garage, 1985... sublime, though the sound quality is a bit 'AM radio'.
posted by jack_mo 22 November | 14:49
I like Underground Railroad radio shows a lot, especially the Monkone/Oneman 1988 vs 1991 show.

74 minute ones.

Thanks guys!

There's also Outof5, which will only get you 35 minutes further down the road this week -- but every little bit helps!

Jack_Mo— Were you on ILX for the YSI threads? Just looking at that Radio One mix, a lot of random songs in those mixes showed up (like the Sparks, Celestial Choir, Yello, Rapture...)
Just curious, because I hadn't heard some of them anywhere else.

Communication - The Cardigans
Switching Off - Elbow
Hold On, Hold On - Neko Case
Daisy - Karine Polwart
Eye Of The Needle - The Divine Comedy
Doesn't Have To Be This Way - Allison Krauss + Union Station
Branches - Midlake

Also: damn, that took a long time to upload.
Wilco is done, but I need to go to bed, so I'll upload it in parts tomorrow.

Here's one I did a couple of years ago. It works as a continuous mix, one track cross-fading or overlapping with another. Think of it like a soundtrack. It still holds up, I think, even if the Black Eyed Peas have become VH1 fodder. Ought to kill about 75 to 80 miles of your journey.

Grabbingsand's Delayed Summer Mix 2004
.

Track List:
1. Oren Ishii - "As Your Leader ..."
2. Tomoyasu Hotel - "Battle Without Honor or Humanity"
3. Jurassic 5 - "Break"
4. Telefon Tel Aviv - "My Week Beats Your Year"
5. Made By Monkeys - "I Try"
6. Crystal Method - "I Know It's You"
7. Lamb - "Open Up"
8. Tricky - "#1 The Woman (with John Frusciante)"
9. Raphael Saadiq - "Get Involved"
10. United Future Organization - "Por Do Sol"
11. Just Jack - "Snowflakes (Grabbingsand's Cure Mix)"
12. Black Eyed Peas - "Elephunk Theme"
13. Royksopp / Erlend Oye - "Poor Leno (Silikon Soul Remix) / There Is A Light That Never Goes Out"
14. Over The Rhine - "God Give Me Strength"
15. God Lives Underwater - "From Your Mouth"
16. Bush - "Mouth (The Stingray Mix)"
17. Jay-Z & Peter Gabriel - "Digging In The Dirt Off Your Shoulder (A Grabbingsand Mashup)"
18. 60 Channels - "Still Burnin'"
19. Zero 7 - "Destiny (Live)"

Best of Wilco disc 1 (your favourite band's "best of" tracklisting sucks...)

I Got You (at the end of the century)
A Shot In The Arm
Monday

How To Fight Loneliness
Red-Eyed And Blue
I'm Always In Love
Why Would You Wanna Live?
Nothing'severgoingtostandinmyway (Again)
Far, Far Away
Pieholden Suite
The Lonely 1
Via Chicago

Best of Wilco disc 2

I'm Trying To Break Your Heart
Hell Is Chrome
I'm The Man That Loves You
Muzzle Of Bees
Ashes Of American Flags
Theologians
Heavy Metal Drummer (live)
At Least That's What You Said

Also, the last track on disc 1 should be ".....You Said" and not "She Said". The MP3 is incorrectly titled - I've only just noticed.

Jack_Mo— Were you on ILX for the YSI threads?

Nope, but I know a couple of folk who post regularly there who really love those songs.

Also, klangklangston - that mix abso-fucking-lutely rocks. (Was there ever a bad record released on 99?)
