Gross jokes from Neil Hamburger, who opened for Tenacious D in San Francisco last night.
I heard someone on TV say that Madge is now fully ingrained in UK culture being a complete chav. This is given away by her always wandering around wearing tracksuits, the occasional stupid hat and having three kids by three different fathers.
A reporter asks Paul McCartney,"After the messy divorce, will you ever be going down on one knee again". Paul replied "I'd prefer it if you called her Heather".
The whole "chav" thing is fascinating to me. The fact that it was spotted and named early seems not to have discouraged it from spreading / persisting over time. Very sad that some folks from *ahem* other countries seem to think it's exotic and hip.
Let me express my middle class outrage by saying that chavs look silly.
Or not. How on earth do people my age fall for the "chav=bad" meme. As far as I can see, it's just another working class sub culture. It's a bitter pill, but every one of us lampooning the chav would probably have been saying the same thing about the mods or the longhairs or the punks in generations gone by.
The irony is that when our parents told us that Punk was a disgrace we saw them as old fashioned dinosaurs. We're doing exactly the same thing and we don't even realise it.
