15 November 2006

Last night in my sleep, I learned... [More:] that if I happen to be sitting in a room with Bonnie Raitt, she'll get pissed if I try to sing harmony with her.

I also argued with my mother.

And I went to the grocery store with Ramix and Specklet, and we made Ramix pay. We were in an old Volkswagen that had a water dispenser and a salt cellar in the ashtray, and I was really thirsty so I kept drinking water (cool, cool water) out of a coffee cup.

I also saw a bunch of people in big Furry costumes dancing on top of a Greyhound bus. (A girl I went to high school with was wearing the Tweety costume).

And I had a dream that while I was brushing my teeth, I looked in the mirror and realized that my upper arms had shrunken to the point where I could easily wrap my thumb and forefinger around them. (In RL I've been having problems with my appetite, so I guess the implication was I'd starved myself.) But there were other people in the room, so I couldn't freak out until they left. But I was. Very freaked out. And still am, a little.

But mostly I'm pissed off at Bonnie Raitt.

Have any interesting dreams yourself?
I rarely remember my dreams anymore. I do have one recirring dream where I'm back in my old high school and I'm a full-grown adult. The building is exactly the same, but I don't recognize anybody. The halls are teeming with students and I'm in a hurry to get somewhere and I'm in a panic that somebody will find out that I didn't graduate high school. Which is weird since I did graduate high school. I have this dream about once or twice a year.

I also have dreams where I'm walking through labyrnthine houses, where in some rooms people are having elegant parties and in other rooms there are deformed, diseased kids chained up.

I've been having weird dreams in which I get followed a lot. Or follow other people. There has been much following.

I had a completely bizarre dream the other night that I vowed to remember so I could puzzle out and, of course, I've forgotten it. I do remember walking down the street I grew up on, and then changing perspective and being someone following me down that street, ducking behind parked cars to hide when I thought I'd be seen. The dream did make me realize I dream about that street a lot.

Jon - that high school dream - I have it, too. I also dream that I'm returning to college and living in the dorms with the other 18 year-olds, and they all try to make me the RA because of my age.

Bleagh!

I've been dreaming that I'm following occhiblu.

I have dreams where i'm in houses with lots of rooms or, even more often, hotels, and often traveling or preparing for traveling.
I could go on about the weirder aspects of this and other dreams elements but instead i have to corroborate Dream Bonnie Raitt's tendency to get shirty.
I don't know why, especially because i know people who have played with her and met her and always say she's really genuine and nice.

I KNEW IT WAS YOU, FLO!

Weirdly, I ended up calling the cops last night on a guy who looked like he was trying to follow me, or at the very least was up to no good. But I felt slightly bad about it, because I do think my dreams have made me slightly more paranoid than I otherwise would have been.

I dreamed about occhiblu last night!

She and I (and this other girl Lisa that I grew up with) were college roommates, and occhiblu kept bringing back Navy cadets to the room. It pissed us off. Then one of the navy boys stole my stereo and occhiblu put up Navy posters everywhere.

It was very odd.

Hey, i have that high school/uni dream where i haven't taken some class all year or something and i'm afraid i'll be found out. Will someone go look that up? it's got to be something pretty common and generic.

gaspode, i blame the Village People.

weird dreams seem to be a familial thing with me, too. One time, in my teens, when visiting my grandparents, me and my Dad slept in the same room of their house. It was a small room, so the beds were less than a foot apart. Deep in the night, I felt hand clamp down hard on my leg. I woke with a start, yelling "What the--??"

I saw my Dad above me slightly dazed, mumbling an apology before returning to bed. When I told my mom the next day, she said with a dismissive wave, "Oh, he does that to me all the time." Later that same day, my grandfather, a gravestone carver by trade, came up to me with wooden calipers, measured my shoulders with them, nodded and then walked away. he never explained why. I am not making this up.

I've been having these epic cinematic dreams recently, like with close ups and interesting angles and nice shot composition and everything. I can barely remember the content (last night's was something about immortality, jets that could take off vertically, and enemies who become friends over long periods of time), but damn the production is polished. Usually my dreams are of the dark, murky and non-linear variety.

OK, so Flo has been following me in order to keep me away from Navy Cadets? Or to help me find Navy Cadets? Now I'm confused.

A couple nights ago I dreamt I was trying to take buses and they were all incredibly slow or went the wrong way or were the wrong size: I was at the bus station for hours. Eventually I got on the wrong bus but by the time the driver let me off I was miles away from anywhere, on the side of the road in the snow and it was getting dark and I didn't know what to do.

I had sexy dreams that make me blush when I remember them.

Oh yes, and while I was at the bus station people kept trying to make me look at their bad art. Everyone else at the bus station was all impressed by all this terrible art and I didn't want to stand out by saying how terrible it was, so I kept just mumbling something and trying to walk away, which didn't work at all.

Just watching over you, occhiblu, that's all. I watch over all of you. One can't be too careful in dreams. Things happen. One would be wise to procure a little... protection. Think of it as insurance. I'm a nightmare insurance agent, that's all. And I ask for so little in return. A favor, someday. Maybe that day will never come. And even if it does... it's just a dream, innit?

I've been having the flying dream again, a lot. The one where I develop lift by insane spinning, which rockets me aloft to thousands of feet, where it is finally safe to spread my arms/wings, and feel the air, and cup my hands to start flying on normal Bernoulli principle physics.

But soon, I realize I'm way underpowered for the winds aloft at that altitude, and that the buffeting is going to break me up. So I put myself in a steep descending turn near maneuvering speed, and try to deal with the forces on myself as I approach Do Not Exceed speed, when the downdrafts and buffeting hit me again.

So to save myself, I pull up and roll out of the turn, at just the wrong moment for the updraft I run into to force initiation of a stall. The air is my enemy now, and the altitude I have is as much as an enemy as the welcoming presence it should be. I hear the stall horn, and feel the shudder of air decoupling from me in my shoulders, then out in my elbows, and slowly into my hands, just as the sickening yaw of a spin starts.

And then I'm spinning, and my fingers claw the air, and my feet gyrate, trying for purchase in whistling wind that would need a rudder many times the size of even my massive feet, to stop this awful whirling spin. And the ground rushes up, and I know the end...

And I wake up and go to the bathroom.

But I'm sure my sub-concious is working through something. The dream starts with insane spinning, and ends with what will surely be the fatal spin that is every airmen's constant nemesis. It's too much of an event arc not to be a constructed story.

But the stall sure feels like what it must, out on the wings of the aircraft I've piloted, and the buffeting of air against my dream body is just that which I've felt through control wires and pulleys in the yokes of small planes in rough air. I know this hate that moving air has for those of us that are too heavy for flight, except by tricks of physics and fossil fuel, and it is informing my dream.

Even learned fears can haunt our nights.

I dreamt I was at the supermarket, but I really was at the supermarket last night.

PinkStainlessTail, vertical take-off and landing is a very important technology and worthy of your dream time. Lockheed Martin approves this message.

Last night's dream was a doozy:

The mister was married to someone else and she, he, me and another woman or two all moved into this big old house. I wanted to use a certain bathroom but the new missus wanted to use that one as well. I told her since she and the mister were using the master bedroom they could be satisfied with the master bathroom. I took a shower and was really annoyed because the shower curtain kept wrapping itself around me. I hate that. Anyway, the overwhelming feeling througout the dream was being extremely pissed-off at everything especially the mister marrying someone else.

I actually used to keep a dream diary. Some of them are so vivid that I just had to write them down. If I find it I'll post a couple in a new thread, if anyone's interested.
One of the ones I really remember was recurrent. It was a tunnel, a long brick tunnel with a very high ceiling, curved in a half circle. I got to it once through a side door in a small house. Once it was filled with racks of clothes. It's not a creepy tunnel, but seems very, very, old.
Many other dreams take place in and around my old childhood home.
