Has anyone else noticed [More:]
a) Metafilter is awfully slow today?

b) It's even slower after a new post has been made to the front page?

It's dead, Jim.

It is risen.

Slow as molasses. Maybe molasses are the problem. Maybe Matt should just hang a big sign on the server that says

CLOSED ON ACCOUNT OF MOLASSES

and go fishing or somethin'.

MetaFilter: not dead, but sleeping.

Right, but is it slowER after a new FPP?

Aaaaaaaaaaanddd. . . .it's down again.

Yes.

By the way, I found this interesting parable in a book about ancient Greek philosophy today. I think it was a Neo-Platonic text, influenced by Zeno. It was about Metafilter and a snail. In this parable, Metafilter starts a race with a snail. Overly self-confident as it is, Metafilter decides to give the snail a head start. Then, however, it falls asleep and when it wakes up, the snail is already past the half-way point. Metafilter goes after the snail, but no matter how fast in runs, it cannot ever catch up with it because by the time it manages to cover the distance the snail had covered, the snail has already flagged it and moved on. Or something. The moral of the story is...well, I've forgotten what it is.

mefi's unreliability is part of its nerdy charm
posted by matteo 15 November | 14:11
Yes, MeFi is slow, and google talk is down. Damn you, internets!

Traffic on the tubes seems slow today.

Yeah, everything seems rather slow, MeFi doubly so per usual.

Maybe it's that time of the month?
posted by Meatbomb 15 November | 14:41
yes, and for many days now. I have timed it - it has taken up to 3 minutes at longest for any MeFi page to load for me. 2 minutes was the fastest. I thought it was just my work 'puter. Glad to know I am not alone.

As slow as a hedgehog's ass?

I don't get it.
posted by mudpuppie 15 November | 15:53
Fuck, this is useless.
posted by orthogonality 15 November | 16:01
mudpuppie: it's not a hedgehog, it's a mole.
posted by Daniel Charms 15 November | 16:04
No, mudpuppie, as drunk as a hedgehog's baby mule. Duh. It's not funny if you have to explain it.
posted by Rock Steady 15 November | 16:14
I got it. I was just being funny. Or not-funny. You decide.

I worship Daniel Charms.

Sorry we let you down, orthogonality.

And the answer is "slow as shrew asses".
posted by Atom Eyes 15 November | 16:33
I don't care. I really like "slower than a hedgehog's ass." And I'm going to use it from now on.

Some of this may have to do with the fact that my work today is going slower than the proverbial hedgehog's ass.
posted by mudpuppie 15 November | 16:38
I've found Mefi to be pretty slow lately. It's usually not a problem for me.
posted by deborah 15 November | 16:58
Yes, it's slow. Perhaps not quite as slow as molasses, but very close.
