Did y'all see that South Africa just voted to legalise gay marriage? It's happening slowly, around the world, but at least it's happening.
You know, it makes me so proud of my country when SOUTH fucking AFRICA recognizes basic human rights before we do. It's like the way I'm so proud that we have slightly lower infant mortality rates than Sierra Leone and our high school graduation rates are right up there with Kosovo.
I am making a rhetorical point and in actual fact I have no idea how US infant mortality rates and high school graduation rates compare to Sierra Leone & Kosovo. Also, Sierra Leone & Kosovo & South Africa are awesome countries and I mean no disrespect but you gotta admit that South Africa used to be a little slow on the human/civil rights uptake there.
Gay marriage (or as I like to call it universal human rights without prejudice) is one of those issues that I can still get fired up about, where other stuff sometimes hits my outrage fatigue wall.
Mark Morford's link is terrific, mudpuppie. He expresses pretty much what I feel about the whole thing-that no one can say truly what is wrong with gay marriage. Because nothing is wrong with it. He said it best "How would gay marriage affect your life if it were granted tomorrow? Would it change your job, your house, your family, your faith?" Of course not. And once it's granted, the "strangeness" will all die away and it will become an accepted part of life. So get with it, USA!
