I don't know about MonkeyFilter, but I'm guessing it's similar to MetaChat in that threads are made up of real people. MetaFilter, on the other hand, is made up of Internet Constructs engaging in pissing contests and oneupmanship. Which is fine, if that's what yer into, but going drinking with MetaChat (and, I'd imagine, MonkeyFilter) is a lot more fun.
