OMG Nellie McKay! This is why I love Wikipedia. [More:]

As a fan of the singer and an editor of her article, I had seen this namesake of hers on search engines and I was, of course, aware of the Norton Anthology of African-American Literature for itself. I had no idea that Nellie Y. McKay was well-deserving of her own article until somebody mistakenly put something into the singer's article about the Dictionary of African-American Biography, and I quickly put together a "stub" article. And was intrigued enough to keep digging. And digging. And digging.

What a fascinating woman (how many academics would turn down Harvard?!).

The most incredible part is that her entire career began in mid-life. She didn't graduate from college until she was 39.
Still working on confirmation for that.
Not that turning 43 next month has anything to do with my attitude. Nossiree.
Wow, dhartung, that's a great article!
