Nixie clocks I hate posting twicet in the same day, but these are awesome.
There's also a Nixie clock project in the latest issue of Nuts and Volts.

That's cool. I'm a dangerous combination of gung-ho and inexperienced when it comes to working on electronics (I once replaced the output tranny and all the caps and wires in a Fender Bassman amp without bothering to check whether the caps were rightside up -- half of 'em were switched and the output stage ran hotter than hell. Sounded fantastic, though; it was the creamiest tube-eater you ever did hear).

I love how one of the selling points on the fancy walnut-based nixie clocks seems to be that they're popular with celebrities. Really?

Bullshit. You just like saying the word "nixie".

At work we used to have a centrally controlled (via NorPack) time system ("official" time) with readouts throughout the plant (this is a large place). The readouts were nixie tubes, and I remember when I first started my job and walking past the central controller and thinking how cool the tubes were. There are still spares for the tubes in the shop, and some of the original readouts are still hung up, but are no longer powered up.
