It's only a matter of time before DumbCo removes the windows and replaces them with these.
That's awwwfulll! Dogs need to smell stuff, in addition to peeking at stuff. Needs air holes at least, but still seems cruel.
Tangent: I took my spaz dog on a walk around my predominantly African American neighborhood yesterday morning. We usually avoid the bus stop kids, but that morning I guess we were early and there were just two high school boys out there. We walked by and one whistled at her, they asked me if "he" bit, I said, no she didn't and we went to meet the kids. She growled at them, but warmed up a bit to the one kid. The other I was able to educate about dog safety a bit - if you come across a dog that seems aggressive, don't bend down to their level, stay standing when you can be in charge. . .
I have white person guilt when the dog growls at African Americans. . .I KNOW she is responding to A: Height, B: Gender, and C: if she's on her turf or not, but even though these kids were so polite, I went home feeling guilty my dog (Chow, which one identified, and I explained it was her nature) growled a bit at them. . .I wanted to take her around again today and bring biscuits for them to give her but it was raining and we had to go to the park for the tree shelter.
Thoughts from metachatters on this complex issue? Yeah, we have 90% white people at our home to visit, but it's not like she's never met a black man.
I don't think she is a racist, but I know the stereotype of AA's fearing dogs, and I wish I had more AA friends to invite over. We had a mixed group in doggie school, and she was universally assholeterrian to all the dogs and owners.
It's a real stereotype, jonmc, with some historically reasonable basis. A: The chased by dogs thing. B: The off the farm based economy thing. Theses kids were shocked that she was an inside dog, and very sweet in the home. AA peeps, at least around here, in Mid-Virginia, tend to keep their dogs outside, as a pride thing, as in, my family doesn't sleep with animals. I can see that stuff as reasonable, of course not universal.
Well, some dogs can have strange reactions to some people. Our pound puppy was severely abused before we got her (at twelve weeks old). We don't know the persons who were responsible, but she goes absolutely berserk when this one Latin boy stops by our house to ask one of the boys to play ball. Granted, she's not overly friendly at any time, and aggressive in any event, but this is over-the-top behavior. I don't know if it's just the kid himself, per se, or what. Bizarre.
My 14 pound chihuahua/pug is super protective when we're out on walks. She growls at just about anyone UNTIL I acknowledge the person. If I don't acknowledge the person Lulu just keeps her protective stance going...which I don't mind as there is a local dive down the street where lots of questionable looking folks hang out - you never know when some of the people from the bar are going to be walking down the alley behind the house.
(To be fair, most of the people who hang out there are good hard-working folks...but you always get a couple people that are jackasses.)
Lulu also really really hates small children and skateboarders. I keep her away from small children. The skateboarders around here are smart enough to avoid the growling little dog. (The only time my dog is outside is when I am out with her and she is leashed.)
