OMG! DaShiv is posting Vegas pics!
Damn, everybody (even me) looks great. DaShiv, you are a master!
posted by jonmc 29 September | 14:14
Krix and saf are a very cute couple. Everyone who is a couple is a cute couple. EB looks so much like that guy on nip/tuck! That guy that wore a red suit last week - the guy that Sean hallucinated about after eating hash brownies.

Ooh, and they're all labeled so i know what i'm looking at. Great, esp. for those of us who haven't been raptly agog for the play by play.
posted by ethylene 29 September | 14:22
DaShiv's achievement is made even more amazing by the fact that we all are, in reality, one-eyed albino midgets.

That's some camera.
posted by jonmc 29 September | 14:23
I *so* love that photo of ikkyu.
posted by occhiblu 29 September | 14:29
I cried when I saw my picture. Who says the camera never lies. I wish I looked like that in real life. DaShiv, you are a genius.
posted by essexjan 29 September | 14:35
You don't look like that in real life, essexjan- you're a thousand times cuter!!!
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 29 September | 14:35
Well those were totally worth waiting for. Nice work, DaShiv!
posted by Zack_Replica 29 September | 15:07
Since I don't have permission to snark in the photo comments...

It looks like TPS is sucking DaShiv's brains out through his ears, so stynxno has no reason to be jealous.
posted by terrapin 29 September | 15:15
They are *gorgeous*. I particularly like the ones of pips and stynxno.

heh, and the final one.
posted by gaspode 29 September | 15:15
Wow, these are amazin'... I love a man who knows how to use his big lense.
posted by Pips 29 September | 15:21
How did you think I got so smart, terrapin?
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 29 September | 15:22
Wow, mischief is a dead ringer for Dennis Franz. How cool is that?!
posted by Atom Eyes 29 September | 15:33
well, thankfully he didn't show me his ass.

(actually, mischief is true mensch and a master Vegas tour guide).
posted by jonmc 29 September | 15:36
Wonderful, I remember everyone looking just this fabulous, too.
posted by krix 29 September | 15:47
Those are stunning. . .I am not NEARLY pretty enough to have been there. .

y'all are very fetching!
posted by danf 29 September | 15:53
Oh, and thanks iconomy :)
posted by krix 29 September | 15:58
krix and saf are awesome people, very funny and smart. Saf is my new Secret Metachat Crush, he is totally gorgeous and has this fantastic radio announcer's voice. Talk dirty to me baby!!!

All the bunnies I met were fabulous. I didn't meet all the Vegas bunnies (as I no longer drink, I didn't hang out with the bunnies once the margaritas started to flow, there's too much temptation in Sin City), but of the ones I did meet ...

Jon is exactly as I imagined, the only time he wasn't talking was when he was

a) eating
b) drawing on his cigarette
c) kissing Pips (which was very often)

Pips is a darling, that sweet, sweet smile reflects her beautiful self. And she has the softest voice. I want Pips to read bedtime stories to me.

Elizard made me wish I still drank, I think we'd have ripped Vegas a new one.

Zack_Replica I thought was very gentle, but then he told me about how much he wanted to beat the crap out of the hippies who played bongos in Vancouver and I knew he was a really cool guy.

Stynxno is Daddy Cool. I think he can give Joe Famous a run for his money as the Coolest Evah NYC Metachatzer. Awesome guy.

GetOffMyLawn is the twin sister I was separated from at birth. Although quite how that happened when my birth was a number of years before hers is something I haven't yet managed to work out.

OrangeSwan is so incredibly, amazingly pretty, she has this dimple when she smiles that made all the guys (except for jon, who only had eyes for Pips) go all swoony. Yes, fellas, we girls did notice.

kmellis is a giggler. Who knew?

Scarabic is very sharp and witty, probably (no offense to anyone else) the cleverest guy in the whole of Vegas that weekend.

Mischief doesn't talk a lot, but ten words from him say more than a thousand of my inane babblings. Cool dude.

dlarge looks like he would be a Very Naughty Boy Indeed, given half a chance.

DaShiv is (for reasons unconnected to Vegas) a hero of mine and it was an honour to meet him. He is teh hawt, too.

And The Pink Superhero - well, what can I say. She is amazingly beautiful, stylish, funny, smart, organised (I saw her write out, address and stamp about a dozen postcards in as many minutes) but, most of all, one of the sweetest, kindest, most thoughtful people I have ever met. Anyone who knows her will tell you so as well. Love ya, Pinky.

OK, I'm gonna hit 'post' before I chicken out of sending this.

Wow! Simply wow!

These pics capture everyone's personality so well. I am in awe.

( I can't wait to see the outtakes! ;-P )

*resoundingly echos essexjan!!!*

Just before DaShiv took my picture, I'd managed to get rid of a guy who practically flew across the bar to chat me up, a guy named Herschel from Syracuse.

He'd had a few drinks, I suspect, because he told me he is a nuclear pipe welder and then asked me what I thought that involved. When I replied "welding nuclear pipes?" he thought I was some kind of genius. Then I told him what I did for a living and he nearly fainted, made his excuses and left. Heh.

you forgot drinking.
posted by jonmc 29 September | 21:35
Also, I'd echo all of the sentiments essexjan expressed above. DaShiv, in addition to being a brilliant photographer, is truly nice guy. mischief is possible the most affable man I've ever met. scarabic was his usual suave witty self. Elizard is a walking party in heels (which make her taller than me, it's bad for to dwarf the groom, lady). Zack Replica is a true man's man and would fit in fine with the NYC drinkin' posse. kmellis is a mensch of the first order and wins the award for best tolerance of a two AM posse of drunken maniacs. getoffmylawn and orange swan are classy ladies of the purest ray serene. krix and saf are my nominee for the new first-couple-to-be of MeCha and were fantastic hosts. stynx and pink were of course fantastic, but I already knew that.

and of course, essexjan herself, who is who I want to be when I grow up. A truuly funny, classy broad. Any of you folks come to New York, we'll show you a good time, guaranteed.
posted by jonmc 29 September | 21:47
also, it was great to see mullacc again, but sadly his skills as a bouncer (where he makes his Mongo face) were not needed this time around.
posted by jonmc 29 September | 22:01
Shouldn't you be honeymooning?
Is your honey mooning?
posted by ethylene 29 September | 22:18
my honey is washing underwear in the sink, and I just took out the garbage. Ah, domestic bliss.
posted by jonmc 29 September | 22:24
esssexjax, there's a couple of nuke plants within a short driving distance of the Syracuse area so he probably wasn't making it up. And you'd think someone like that wouldn't be afraid of a lawyer from England, but apparently that wasn't the case.

Hot. Damn.
One day I will work up the cash and/or courage to attend another meetup.

I know he wasn't making it up, but it was just the obviousness of his job title and then him being surprised at me being able to guess from that what it involved.

And I'm, er, not exactly a lawyer. Sort of, but not quite. It was the not quite part that scared him off!
posted by essexjan 30 September | 06:13

You still managed to talk while chugging a Bud. Quite how I don't know but I suspect it's a skill that's innate, not learned.

Wowzy wow on those pictures!

essexjan, do you call it "baisining your smalls?" That's the cutest Brittish expression I ever heard, I hope it isn't totally random/made-up. . .
posted by rainbaby 30 September | 13:21
I've never heard it called that. I know some people call their underwear 'smalls' but, the size of my arse, I could use mine as a parachute in an emergency.

I always throw mine in the machine, as I am essentially too lazy to wash anything by hand.
posted by essexjan 30 September | 13:28
But if basin = sink, is basining a feasable word? (I feel like Mythbusters!)
posted by rainbaby 30 September | 13:40
No, rainbaby, I don't think 'basin' can be used as a verb, at least, I've never heard it used that way. People sometimes say 'washing their smalls' but that's very old-fashioned, the sort of thing my mother would've said.
