It's just youtube growth pains. I think there's a bunch of people who used to be quite happy on youtube, and now it's being polluted by a multitude of styles and opinions and the flame wars have started. I'm wondering if the "fake" callout is the vlog equivalent of calling everyone you disagree with a Troll.
The only interesting thing about this is it appears to be following the curve set by every other community site since 1990. Stage (5) Youtubers are quickly discovering that people don't have to be nice on the internet and they're moaning about it.
My take on it: Things will get worse before they get better.
