So, how's it goin?
Hey baby! Was just about to send you an email. How's the trip?

P.S. Talking to Jennifer tonight, and OMGOMG I touched the sugar gliders last night!

It's going boogers. And you?
posted by safetyfork 14 September | 13:47
Notice how both comments end with asking you how it's going? We want to know about your adventures, man! Please appease us.

Eh. What are you working on at work these day, cmonkey?

Is that what the kids are calling it these days? Well, more original than "killing kittens," I suppose.

That robo monster in your photoset was way cool. It's going well on my end. I just took another trip to eastern Oregon, where my client gave me more petrified logs!

dersins, I've been hanging out with ceiling cat.

Okay boys, TMI. TMI.

Hey pie, if you're looking to unload any of those logs...

Hee hee! No, I'm bonding with my new gliders!

Sure, why not? I've got several extras on my back porch. I put one in my front yard, I gave one to my mom, and there are still several small ones in the trunk of my car.

Are you being paid in logs, pie, or are they gifts?

I head back to Prague tomorrow afternoon, and I'm a bit sad about that. I've really enjoyed Harrachov, and I'd love to come back some day if I can afford it. The bread and potato diet hasn't been fun, but the rest of it sure has been. My talk went really well, the whole week has been really mentally stimulating, and unlike last year's conference, I actually got to know the other attendees. So it's been great. I haven't really had many good adventures yet, unfortunately, but I hope that'll change when I head to Warsaw on Monday.

ortho: Right now I'm working on enterprise management components, and when I get back I'm going to be starting work on software that'll stop SQL injections. The latter I'm particularly excited about, although I don't know how much I can say about it yet.

Why aren't there pictures of the sugar gliders yet, specklet?!

I want a protest sign that says "STOP SQL INJECTION!"

Harrachov looked really pretty in your pictures.

I'm thinking I'd like to come down to PDX for a weekend sometime next month to get familiar with what neighborhoods are good to live in. Could you guys (anyone posting above and/or the usual gang) show me around?

Sure, why not?

Pie, seriously, I would love it! I'll buy you beers and tell you you're purty.

Well, I have the ones that the breeder took (see above link) but they're so shy I haven't wanted to do anything but move slowly and croon when I'm around them. Also, bright light hurts their eyes, so a flash is out. Maybe when I get them used to being handled, low artificial light will be enough...

Could you guys show me around?

My time seems to be rather limited these days, mats, but I can tell you different neighborhoods and their characteristics and housing typically available therein. And if I can swing it, we should totally hang out!

Do I smell a meetup in the offing? I'll be unemployed by then, and rarin' to do some heavy drinkin' with no work-related hangover consequences...

Sounds good, sounds good. We should wait unitl cmonkey returns, if that's possible...
posted by Specklet 14 September | 14:57
dersins and Specklet, Yea, sounds good. I am serious about the logs.
posted by pieisexactlythree 14 September | 16:31
Me too, pie. Let's get together soon. Let's call each other with scheduling info. Whee!
posted by Specklet 14 September | 16:33
Yes, I have a free book for cmonkey, so I would wait for him to get back. MEETUP MEETUP MEETUP!
posted by matildaben 14 September | 17:09
I get back on October 6th, but I'm told that Jessamyn will be in the Portland area in late October, so that might be a more likely timeframe for one.

hi cmonkey, what happened for your Mystery Charge at the bank?
posted by By the Grace of God 15 September | 01:42
The Mystery Charge turned out to be some worthless shithead using my card number to order something from Sprint. Probably a fancy new phone, judging by the cost. It's now pending removal by the fraud department, who also are issuing me a new ATM/debit card.

Now that I've gone through the joy of trying to cash a travellers' cheque some 10,000+ kilometres from home on a Saturday, I am just full of imaginative tortures that I would happily inflict on the fucker who used my card number.

I'm sooo jealous of your trip, cmonkey! Stay safe, eh?

And I read off to the mister what you're up to work-wise and he (not me!) understood it. :^)
