Ask Mecha: free ERD diagramming tool? [More:]
I want something halfway between an ERD diagrammer and a free-form sketch pad. basically, I want to draw rectangles and connect 'em and write little comments, and I don't want to have any wizards. I just wanna click a plop down rectangles and make 1-or-many (you know, line or trident line endings) lines joining 'em.

I don't want anything that forces me to label stuff, or crap like that. Entirely free-form, and then I add notes later, because that's how I see it in my mind.

Dia will do it.

You may find this tool helpful in conjunction with dia.

Yeah, dia is perfect for that kind of thing.

Thanks! I've bookmarked these on del.icio.us in case I need something of that sort (I have in the past, when I didn't have access to visio).

It's not free (neither speech nor beer) but SmartSketch is pretty cool.

You can also give Umbrello a try. I find it to be more stable than Dia, but it's designed for UML work, so it doesn't do network diagramming.
