OMG! The Evens! for kids. Via bardic's comment in metatalk.
Load html page, then watch the Quicktime movie of the evens or ted leo for that matter.
The alternate take on the post was:
OMG!! Dude from Minor Threat sings about vowel movements.

Nice post. I've got to wait until tomorrow to actually watch the videos because of QT unavailability at work, but I will, oh, I will.

Be prepared for just some snippets of the songs in some cases. I couldn't resist posting despite this. I laughed, I cried. I watched a good 1/3rd of the clips even knowing they'd be abbreviated (once I caught on). Forwarded the link to some friends with kids, and thought to myself: "Self, could Division of Planes do a Pancake Mountain dance party?" We'll see.

man, the evens played @ the wedge gallery here in a'ville earlier this year, and i'm still kicking myself for missing that.

(am i the only one who thinks that the evens mop the floor with anything done by fugazi and minor threat? i know that ian mackaye is pretty much "on a pedestal" to many people, but i really think that he's just now hitting his stride - his best stuff is yet to come.)

Syntax -- I love The Evens! and can't figure out why people are so "meh" about them. Amy Farina has such a wonderful touch (on the drums). Her beats are so skillful and match perfectly with what Ian's doing on the bariitone such that their sound is incredibly whole for a two piece. The lyrics are great, as to be expected. Their disc has been on serious rotation at the apartment since it came out.

Of course, I'm a big Fugazi fan, too. But for me that band was more about Guy than Ian. Sacrilege to some and denies the band's history in many ways, but everytime I saw them Guy was the bomb (and other than one track from In on the Killtaker, I always found his lyrics to be more captivating).

Anyway...I've clearly flown the fanboy flag here.

So, The Evens singing Vowel Movement for kids! Yeah.

Ok. I've been dwelling on this since I posted the above. So maybe what I really mean upon further reflection is it (fugazi) was more about the team effort than just about Ian. Because Canty and Lally made serious contributions to that band and after giving Guy the mega props above I do feel like saying ol' Mackaye was no slouch in it either. :)
