31 August 2006

Once there was a redheaded man without eyes and without ears. He had no hair either, so that he was a redhead was just something they said. He could not speak, for he had no mouth. He had no nose either. He didn't even have arms or legs. He had no stomach either, and he had no back, and he had no spine, and no intestines of any kind. He didn't have anything at all. So it is hard to understand whom we are really talking about. So it is probably best not to talk about him any more.
Warning: last two links are in Russian.

Very nice! Is this you? And if so... where is the rest of that story?

Go back to the beginning and start again.

Thanks for all these links Daniel: fascinating stuff. I do like the Four Illustrations of How a New Idea Disconcerts a Man Unprepared for It.

DC: would it be OK to cross-post this at the ‘big stupid blue place’? I noticed you mention the other day you don’t have an account there.

misteraitch: sure, no problem.

Wow, thanks for the amazing post! misteraitch is right - this should be on the blue. Are there any of the Russian links that have been translated into English? That's the only bone of contention that I can see anyone having with this.
I'm going to definitely forward this to a friend of mine who's taking her Ph.D in Russian... she'll love it.

I tried my best not to include any links in this post that would require translation, but decided that these two should be there for completeness' sake. The second to last one is simply a gallery of photos and drawings (click the links next to the photo). The last link goes to the best (to my knowledge) collection of articles and essays on Kharms' works. Unfortunately, it's all in Russian, but I was hoping someone might find it useful or interesting.

I thought so, about the Russian-only pages. It's interesting as it seems to add (for me) to the story and the mystery behind the red-headed man rather than detract from it.

Daniel, in my opinion, you're the shit!

Lots of stories in English. Новый Талантливый is an old favorite of mine.

Wolfdog: The stories and other materials in the lib.ru collection can all be found under the second or third link (as far as I can tell), which is probably why I left it out :7 And the Geocities page also has translations to other languages as well. In any case, thanks for the link.

Well they sure can't be found there when the site's hosed.
