Bump up the Books... extending our Photo Friday. The theme is "your bookshelves", and images have been posted here and here .
I weeded out my books during my big moves. For a time a policy was in effect: I only kept books I would re-read, loan out, or use for reference. Too harsh! I must have given away three times the books I kept, and it means that almost all of what I still have are the big Classics, serious favorites, or reference books. The weeding-out seemed logical at the time, but now I regret it. Books are a timeline of life. There's also one more shelf this size in the house, a shelf full at work, and various piles throughout the place.
The cookbooks and cooking magazines live on a kitchen shelf. On the left, that's a couple years' worth of Cooking Light, which is easily one of the best cooking magazines out there.
Yeah... Books is hard. I've given away or sold maybe five or six times more than I have currently, and it sucks. Before we left the U.S., I had one entire bookcase just for recipe/food books and magazines. The three things I most regret leaving behind when we moved overseas: 3/4 of my books, a bookcase that was handmade by a friend, a huge, honking beautiful framed mirror handmade by mr. taz.
My bookshelf collage: this is actually five different bookshelves from around the house, morphed into one hideous monster bookshelf of unnatural life! ≡ Click to see image ≡
And, a desktop that serves as some kind of a book stop for books out from the shelves: ≡ Click to see image ≡
OK. It's just a two-room apartment. On to the bedroom. The bed is framed by two bookshelves. I wasn't able to get the bottom shelf of each in the following shots, they're the same size shelf as the one in the living room.

This is the bookcase in our living room. As you can see, I collect antique books! ≡ Click to see image ≡

This shelf is above our picture window in the living room. I just went through and got rid
of books that held no interest anymore. ≡ Click to see image ≡
And this shelf is in my bedroom. I have more books near the kids' room,
and in my shed. I'm a bookaholic!
