I took my camera for a walk this lunchtime→[More:]It was a funny old day, one minute bright sunshine, the next dark cloud. But the walk round the dock is lovely, 2 miles from start to finish.
Interesting pics. I worked in the Docklands many years ago. I had to go in on a weekend once (I lived in Barking). It was very surreal...the place was completely deserted. I wandered over to Canary Wharf Tower since I'd never been in it before and to my surprise, there was a Chilis restaurant on the second floor, open, but also completely deserted. I went in and had a Mickey's big mouth beer...a sweet, sweet taste of home.
Oooh...the Docklands. It's both great and sucky at the same time.
It lacks the charm and character of the older parts of London...but I looove passing through it on the DLR. The DLR snakes around the buildings like a theme park ride and if you go really early (6am is my record) you can see into the offices and all the tired workers and their little desk and computers.
Jan, I loved these pictures. Because I'm naive and have never been to England, they seem very Englishy to me. The aluminum-grey sky, the appearance of the highly Beatrix-Potteresque waterfowl, then the bright red of the fixtures...it's like a worldess children's book. If a five-year-old happened along in a yellow slicker and Wellies, it would fit in just perfectly.
