Journalist Jill Carroll, held captive in Iraq for 3 months, details the experience in a series of articles in the SF Chronicle. Part I ran yesterday. Here's part II.
Then one of them said in Arabic, "What are you? What are you?"

A tiny voice next to me replied, "I'm a mujahid," a holy warrior.

It was a boy -- I'd learn that his name was Ismael, and he was 5 years old. Just a child, already indoctrinated.

Maybe the right-wing bloggers will forgive her now. They all jumped on her, remember, for that "exit interview" she gave when she wasn't 100% sure she had been released and wasn't prepared for, still wearing the hijab they gave her in captivity (or the one she had hoped would make her inconspicuous and less vulnerable to kidnapping).

But then she got off the plane in Germany having "borrowed" a military jacket, and when I saw that I thought here is one media-savvy gal.
