as a non native English speaker, I have always wondered: is it "eat shit and die" because the shit you're suppose to eat is toxic, like, _poisoned_, or are the two events unrelated?

I enjoy Graham Norton. I love his accent. I would listen to him read even the worst MetaTalk thread.

I believe the two events are unrelated, yes. Just like saying "fuck off and die". Fucking off won't cause you to die, but you should anyway.
