Room for rent in Vermont Roommate a little crazy but sometimes goes to work and leaves MeFi window open, logged in as admin....[More:]

I assume no one needs a little rural hideaway for a few months, but this is both my "cast a wide net" approach as well as a full and total acknowledgement that my recent ex (the law student who just graduated, no need to name names, just call him Esquire) no longer lives here.

As I've said elsewhere the split was mostly amicable, but the "now I have to pay twice as much rent" still rankles, even if I live in the most beautiful place on earth.

Blah blah blah wish me luck for the perfect roomie?
Wow what a great house. What a deal! I'd jump on it. If I was in Vermont and uhm.. Not a new mom and uh, not attached to dad and oh you know what I mean!

Good luck, jess! It looks like such a wonderful place.

Yes, it's a beautiful house, and it's cool that you're the one that "gets custody" as it were. Even amicable splits are no fun, so you have my sympathy, but living so near a school I'll bet it gets snapped up quick at that price.

Heh, utilties include "plow."

$400 a month for MeFi admin access AND a plow? Now there's a deliciously dangerous combo. I'm there.

We'll change the roommate from "a little crazy" to "invisible bat-thwackin' insane" in no time.

I couldn't afford to stay in a rural hideaway for a few months, but I'd love to stay for a week or two.

Jessamyn, I think you should try to make it a time-share.

of course, i am the perfect candidate for this position.

You should raise the rent to 500$ for that extra added ammenity of the MeFi admin. screen being so easily accessible.

upon further thought, I have concluded that I would consider paying 500$ just for the access to the MeFi admin screen.

I miss Vermont sometimes. Not in the winter but sometimes it would be nice to be back near my family again.

Cheap rent, good people, funky gun laws, salty roads and those wonderful, wonderful green mountains. I do miss home from time to time.

Maybe I'll go to the beach today to remind myself of why I'm in California.

Good luck, Jessamyn. Besides, I'm the last person you'd want to have admin access, even for five minutes. Oooooh the trouble I could cause. The ban hammer would need a new handle when I was done, hehehe. Nah, but I would definitely mess with people.

That's a darn interesting idea. A guest house, a retreat center. At $100 a week, who among us could refuse?

You wouldn't want to live with me - I'd constantly ask you to find me pictures of people having sex with meat products, and asking when mathowie was coming over for tea.

But you have a lovely house. Next time I'm visiting my mom in NH, you, me and Miko need to get together and drink tequila. I'll get the strippers!

Sass, you should definitely get in touch next time you're around.

I would also like to try a weekend getaway in VT sometime. Sign me up for being interested in a MeFi-admin-assisted trip. Do you have a colorful brochure?

I think it would be cool if me and quonsar both moved in, shared the space. I don't have much shit at all, quonsar, so I'm sure we'll both fit. We can rotate bed / floor on alternate nights, just to keep things fair.

Jessamyn, I'm pretty casual too, so I hope hanging out in my underwear or a bed sheet in the common areas is OK? And I don't work much, so I'll be hanging around most of the time, do you have cable?

I think I'd do up to a month or so, even. Sounds cool. I couldn't move there for a variety of reasons (not the least is my cat). But my disability claim was finally approved and I've been thinking quite a bit about traveling a little bit as being good for my mental health. And the thing is, I can't travel like a tourist because of my health—I need to be somewhere long enough, and comfortable enough, that I don't move around too much, too quickly to be able to walk, much less actually enjoy myself*. So, I serious about this idea, if you're looking for people to fill in some things shorter term. But you'll probably find a permanent roommate soon, as it sounds lovely.

*. I so wanted to come to the Asheville meetup. But, aside from the expense of organizing it at the last minute, it was the likely possibility that I wouldn't really be able to join in and have much fun that put me off the idea. But so many people are going to be there! Dammit.

I think bathing regularly would be high on the list of what Jessamyn wants in a co-resident.
posted by brujita 29 July | 14:44
Go for it, kmellis (if only to keep quonsar OUT). From my experience, once my disability was ensured (and I got a mind-numbing retroactive payment), I moved to my personal favorite place in the world. (Vermont is nice, but a bit cold, I'll never get used to the sun RISING over the ocean and I'd live in dread fear of meeting arry Daryl and Daryl.) But if you do have mobility issues, I'd say one month is too short a stay in one place. Two or three, max (more than that and roots will likely take hold, or just inertia).

Bring It On. If you guys are quiet at night, keep the kitchen clean and can make the rent and pay the bills [MB, the cable is available if you want to pay for it] I'm sure you'd kick ass over some treehugging betty from the law school who fills the bathroom up with makeup and scented candles. I don't care what you wear if you don't care what I wear.

Since my landlady is leaving for the Peace Corps she needs me to sign pieces of paper that say I'll take care of the place for two years before she goes to the South Pacific, so any bizarro situation would have to look legit for a few months until she leaves, otherwise I'd totally start Jessamyn's House for Little Bunny Wanderers and I still might, post-October.

Either way, I'll have a guestroom so weekend getaways are still a total possibility.

I have a friend that would love that place, but she has 2 kids...

The place is much nicer than the photos let on, and the gardens are gorgeous.
