Send the Good Vibes West in 2 1/2/ Hours! [More:]I've got a second interview with my old company in a couple of hours and wanted to tap the good vibe patrol on MeCha. The job represents a lot of good stuff. Not the least of which is a strong argument for relocating our household from our current hell.

So please, MeCha, help me ace this second one and maybe I'll start working again next week.

The downside (or upside depending on how annoying you find me) is that I would not be able to read or post anything on the MeFi-MeCha universe during the day anymore and that would be sad for me.

But the other upside is that I'd start making some money again and that's always nice.

Bonus points for responses that help me nail the tough interview questions I'm likely to get asked (weaknesses?, why left last job?, etc.).
Sending vibes!

Vibes will be there and they will be good.

The "weaknesses" question: this is where they want you to weed yourself out by volunteering bad info about yourself. Don't used the canned stuff either (i.e. "I work too hard").

I'd turn that question into a question for them: "Well, let me ask you -- what are the biggest weaknesses in the company? How do managers deal with workers with difficulties?" And if they volunteer things (like, I dunno -- tardiness, drunkeness, goat-fucking on the job, whatever), say "Well, you won't have to worry about *that* with me! I'm never tardy/drunk/goat-fucking/whatever."

Interviews are conversations, and you're interviewing them as much as they are you.

Best of luck!

I'm vibrating as I type. I think there are two solutions to the what are your weaknesses question depending on what your sense of the person you are talking to is.

The first and my preferred method is to look them in the eyes deadpan and say "I steal and I lie constantly." Then smile and say "Does anyone have a good answer to that question, I can't figure it out."

The second method, more conservative but also bullshitty, is just to say something like "I tend to care strongly about what I do, so I can sometimes take problems home with me and spend downtime trying to solve them, but I'm aware that I need to be healthy and relaxed to do a good job so I try really hard to just set a time to pick at the problem and then stop."

Good, good, good, good vibrations!
eeee-oooo-oooo-eeee

"The worst thing about me? I never take breaks, and sometimes at the end of the day I realize that I've been working on a project and I didn't even get up for lunch. I'm healthy and it never causes me any problems beyond numbness in my legs and bum grapes the size of gumballs, but I sometimes wonder if there's such a thing as Attention Surplus Disorder."

"I left my last job because scabies were going around the office and it looked like I was next."

Yahoo! Thanks everyone! I did not get a job offer to day but we'll be back in touch early next week and I am hopeful that they are ready to put me back to work.

The interview was very positive and I aced most of the answers including the one about why I left my last job (and I sooooo wanted to say because my last boss was a miserably cheap bi-atch! but I didn't).

Thanks for the good happy thoughts everyone, I could feel the love in the room!

And now, I'm talking my hound to the park so she can run, run, run her little heart out!
