21 July 2006

I went out on a date with this girl, and I offered to pay for dinner. She never called me back about a second date, so how do I get her to give me $50 toward her share of the dinner's cost? Should I issue her a summons to appear in court, or should I just report her to her employer?
IMHO, you offered to pay. Unless, you made the agreement with her before the meal that you will be paying for her dinner on the CONDITION that she goes out with you again, the meal should be considered a gift.

"YOU" as in the universal You. Not YOU - orthogonality.

Hey, at least he wasn't asking her to pay her half of the tip...

omg that's simultaneously frightening and hilarious.

I'm so sick of the dinner-whore arguments and I've gotten so gunshy about this that I now *insist* on going dutch.

men. can't live with 'em. can't bury 'em in the backyard.

There was a metafilter thread about this not too long ago. I think everyone came to the conclusion that this was a hoax.

I always offer to pay for my date's dinner, even if it was the most boring experience of my life. It's what a gentleman should do. maybe if my profile stated "I will pay for your dinner" I'd get more dates :'(

My test is whether I'd pay for dinner if it weren't a date. I assume dutch with a stranger and frankly I'm surprised that this isn't the norm in this day and age.

At least he left a decent tip.

i like how the blogger who posted this runs a "PR and Marketing boutique firm" yet doesn't know the difference between faze and phase.

What a creep. I doubt it's a hoax, he's a real person and he gives the name of his company.

Heh. dgaicon in the mefi thread: "He should've got her to sign a pre-sup."

I'm glad I don't have to date - what a pit of vipers.
