Walmart is not going to prosecute shoplifters anymore, UNLESS they have taken 25$ or more in goods. I had to RTFA to believe it.

And only 18 to 64-year-olds, too. Man, when I turn 65, I'm gonna go to Wal-Mart every day. No wonder my parents love it so much.

Sounds nice, but ultimately it is not a win for the anti-box folks unless BIG cities our counties can ban the store. They can just go barely outside of the city limits and build, still run smaller stores out of business, and not give the city any tax money.

Although I voted for her last time, and she is a Democrat, one of the Arkansas senators (Lincoln) will not be getting my vote a second time for fucking my city over by being part of the reason that we are losing our Sam's Club. They wanted to build a new one and close the old one.

But they wanted a liquor license and there is one man that owns ALL of the stores here. Complete monopoly. Actually he used Wal-Mart like tactics of super low prices to run other stores out and then upped his prices when they were gone. So if you want to buy alcohol you go to his stores or you drive to another city. Benton County is a dry county which means that a good portion of those folks can either come to Springdale to buy their alcohol or go north to Missouri and buy barely across the state line.

He enlisted her aid and they fought tooth and nail to keep the store from getting the license. So Wal-Mart quit bothering to fight it, chose to build the new Sam's Club barely in the next city (Fayetteville) where they would have no trouble with the alcohol sales. So the super-busy Sam's Club and all of that in-city money is gone but since it is barely outside of the city it will probably lose little if any business from the city. It was in no way a win for Springdale and I lost pretty much all respect for the woman with that little stunt.

I will probably just abstain from voting in that race, but I won't rule out voting for another candidate.
However I would like to say that in what IS a win for the city, the citizenry actually had the brains to vote yes (although by a slim margin, admittedly) for our new minor league ballpark. Which will be like a mile or two (at the most) from my house. =)

Considering that it was being spun as creating more taxes (just making existing ones continue, basically) and our local Uber-Church and it's Reverend Assface who has became a total and complete whore of the Southern Baptists Assoiciation were against it because of alcohol sales, I am amazed that that it passed. Thrilled though.
So now rich people can keep those eyesores out of their neighborhoods, and drive to the next town over when they feel like going slumming.

I am really glad to see all the little cracks in Walmart's facade. Let's hope the cracks grow wider over time.

I still don't understand people shopping there but I also know people who do.

I walked into one, one time, and it creeped me out.

I tried to avoid it, danf, but it's pretty much the only game in town. The nearest Kmart and Target are about half an hour away. And I refuse to patronize the local hardware store after The Great Monster Truck Incident of 1997.
