I love the internet. Pips was visiting her mom today and took the wrong exit off the bridge. She called me on her cell and reported where she was (way the fuck out in Bayside), but I calmly mapquested directions for her and she's on her way. It's a brave new world. I need to get her home since she's got double-bacon-chili-cheeseburgers from this joint for me. and cos I love her and stuff.
Golly, those dogs look good.

You love her and stuff. Good man.

This is for you buddy.

I love you both.

Update: she's home now. she took a detour through what appeared to be a truck depot out in Corona or some fuckin' place. Some nice Puerto Rican men gave her directions (one called her 'baby'), and she got lost again. She called me from 103rd & Northern (she started off around 203rd) and we managed to get her home.

He's my hero and saint... guiding me home. Mapquest seemed to steer us a bit wrong (or it was probably me), and I'm still a bit jittery from my journey into no man (or woman's) land, but the gin's helping.

When the guy gave me directions, pointing to what looked like a flooded-out alley between abandoned warehouses/truck depots, I felt a little like Lorraine Bracco when DeNiro told her to walk around the corner to the warehouse for some dresses...

Thanks to all those who worried over me... the Pips Signal is being installed tomorrow (or maybe just GPS). I'm not sure I'm up to fighting crime. And my cape's at the cleaner's.

I was once walking down University Ave. in Seattle and a friend in another state was looking up restaurant reviews and reading them to me on my cellphone so I could decide between Indian or Thai.

I know, not that same but I felt I wanted to contribute.

Mapquest for San Francisco was programmed by some sadistic, bitter mapquest employee. You are guaranteed to be steered wrong, especially once you're out of downtown or the avenues.

That's a nice story and I'm glad it worked out.

Ironically, I had a tense evening with The Husband - just little things - last straw being him looking for an official document in the study, tearing it apart, for something he knew about weeks ago. Finally I went in there and found it in about two minutes, which was plenty of time to hurl built up invectives at him. "I feel like fucking ONSTAR!!!" I screamed. Brave new world indeed!

Bayside Diner, by the by, resembles a cathedral. I wonder how the coffee is...

Map to give you an idea of how far afield she was. We live in the area marked 'Ditmars-Steinway.' Somehow pips wound up in the area marked 'Bayside,' and passed through all the urban jungle in between.

Bayside is far, far away from Astoria, way far away. Like far. Bayside is like Long Island, yo! They don't have a subway even.
