An update on MiHail memorial donations. →[More:]Many of you may remember that MiHail (she of the infamous mushroom post) died earlier this year. As announced here and here we took up a collection to benefit organ donation and liver research charities.

I offer a belated thank-you to all of you who gave so generously. I held off on making the donations in hope that we could contact MiHail's family but sadly we have been unable to do so.

Donations totaled $355.00 plus $1.00 in earned interest. On behalf of Metachat.org and Metafilter.com I have made a donation in memory of Catherine Koos in the amount of $300.00 to The American Liver Foundation as they contribute funding to research immediately relevant to MiHail's disease such as this. I have also made a donation in the amount of $56.00 to The United Network for Organ Sharing as it serves to promote organ donation and it was important to MiHail.

I have had the memorial cards sent to me. Should we make contact with the family at some point I will forward them on.

As a noob MiHail committed a faux pas and brought out the worst in some mefites but she did not run and hide. As we know now getting beat-up on a web site was probably the least important battle she faced.

Thanks again to all. It is heartening to know that as members of a virtual community we can remember those we have lost and that we can do some small bit of good for the wider world we live in.
