Make available offline? Have you ever used Explorer's "Make available offline" feature to take MeFi with you?
I'm heading up to the cottage this long weekend and was thinking it would be wonderful to have a little Mefi for the beach. I'm pretty certain the ol' EI feature is frought with problems... anyone had any luck with it or other off-line readers for the blue?

Methadone might be easier, Hanover.

I've used wget (and WinWget) successfully on many occasions. Metafilter's well over 100,000 pages, though, so you might not want to download the entire site.

No, not the entire site... that would be silly. Just a days worth of posts or so. I'll check out WinWget, thanks box... and SassHat, is this "Methadone" you speak of, is that for Windows or Mac? ha!

Hanover, if you're on a Mac then you'll be wanting the iMethadone (it's got a Firewire 800 connection) rather than the regular stuff.

Sometimes I would really love to have a Best of MetaFilter site to get to the best stuff quickly.

One potential "issue" would be the desire to leave a comment but being unable to, that would drive me nuts!

You could approximate this with Firefox. Open all the pages you're interested in as tabs, then save the session. Then later run Firefox, choose "Work offline", and then restore the tab session. It should use the cached pages.

Although without the links, I don't see how just the comments alone would be very interesting.

I do this with AvantGo on my iPaq. Works ok but the interface isn't smart enough to be able to skip youtube links so those pages waste alot of the allocation without giving you the video.
