This reminds me (in a good way) of my grandfather's funeral, a little over ten years ago. It was held in Florida, though all of the family (except my immediate family) lived in Indiana. The point being, it was the first time that all of my mom's siblings and their kids, the 25+ of us cousins, and their kids, had ever been at the same place at the same time, and that in itself was pretty remarkable.
Anyway, because there were so many of us, the folks -- the usually meddlesome old ladies, but in this case, the kindly old ladies -- in my grandparents' retirement park cooked a big-ass dinner for us all and served it to us in the Rec Hall after the service.
After dinner, some of us were outside along the canal, playing shuffleboard with the kids of the third generation. It had rained earlier in the day. One of the kids pointed up to the gray, clearing sky and pointed out a rainbow -- a full circle. After a minute, another appeared. And then a third. It was a triple full-circle rainbow.
All 40+ of us stood out there on the shuffleboard court, (regrettably) together for the first (regrettable) time, smiled up at the sky and teared up, knowing that Grandpa was smiling at us.
Saw the Brockenspecter over San Jose from the hills on the west side of the valley once. That was wild. Chemicals were involved, but the spectre was real. Just chemically enhanced.
