My grandma filled her bathtub full of water. I guess she thought a computer controlled water flow or something.

Did you know that you can eat your belt and shoes to survive if you're ever stranded somewhere without food for a long period of time? Vegans are shit out of luck, but if you wear leather, it's kind of like super-tough beef jerky without the extra flavor.

A friend of mine is a sociologist who studies collective behavior, he has a chapter in his book about Y2K. Basically, the really active Y2Kers went in two directions. Some just dropped the whole thing, don't talk about it they can help it, and have moved onto new conspiratorial obsessions. I like to think a lot of them are Minutemen, and the rest make political FPPs to Metafilter.

But another group of them argue that they were basically right about Y2K, and take personal credit for having headed off the disaster by getting everyone excited and drawing attention to the problem. Some say their warning was heeded by a government that had been asleep on the issue. Others say the government was behind Y2K in the first place, and that the attention scared off the conspirators.

Of course, the 9-mm is practically a popgun against looting mobs, so four M-16 assault rifles are also on the way.

Of course.

I think you're right, LarryC, that people with this mentailty have just found other ways to channel their... let's call them "quirks".
