Fake or Foto? An entertaining quiz from Autodesk. Take a look at ten images and try to tell the real ones from the CG ones.
100% on both the main 10 part test and the 4 part bonus test on the first try, most of them without even popping open the full sized ones.

But I'm practically an autistic-savant when it comes to digital art and imagery, and I've been working with (2 dimensional) graphics/digital art since before the dawn of DTP, and I've been fascinated with 3D simulation ever since it's advent.

But it's a certain kind of sickness for me, too. Watching almost any film with 3D effects, digital compositing or other effects can be quite painful if I allow it. I spot digital composite, transition, 'scoped and other effects easily, and even 30 odd years after TRON, I've still yet to see 3D effects that were convincing.

Thankfully I can turn this sickness off fairly easily and just enjoy the movie and storyline for itself, but then I'm the sort of sick freak who can read books backwards or have movies spoiled and still enjoy them just the same.

Hm. Seven of 10 correct; I thought I would do better. I'm 30% less loquacious-y. :(

I got 9/10, I think I missed the corkscrew.

Taz, pardon if I've waxed or if I'm waxing pedantic or braggartly, I don't mean to. I'm a little in the cups, too.

I shouldn't really be considered any sort of standard or anything. I'm pretty serious about the autistic-ness of how I see and spot synthetic images. It's really freakish and abnormal. I just see it and I "know"... something about the diffusion or specularity of the light in the image, or even very subtle "jitter" noise around objects, shadows and reflections. It just pops right out at me like it was day glo.

Short story, though, is that if I start getting fooled by synthetic imagery we're all in trouble and we've probably finally crossed over the photorealism boundary.

Well, I could easily spot most of them because either the lighting or the textures were too...perfect. I only missed two in the first round because I outwitted myself (I thought they were being clever. Upon studying the images a bit more carefully, I could easily see where I went wrong). And then got zero out of four in the second round :(

Loq, sorry, I was out for a while - but I was only teasing & playing! I didn't mean to imply you were bragging at all, which I don't feel... and in fact I find it very cool that you have that skill.

10/10 and 4/4. Huh.

10 for 10, but only 2 for 4 in the bonus round.
That glass looked SO fake...
