Dude, I live in Astoria. I know from gyros, brotha.

Mmmmmmm, gyros. I am totally on a gyro kick right now.

They're doner kebabs in England. And you only eat them when you're drunk.

Astoria (me, pips & pinky's and the Wino's former 'hood) is the Greekest neighborhood this side of the parthenon. There's several gyro stands within walking distance, souvlaki parlors, too. Even the Chinese restaurants have gyros on the menu. We eat 'em all the time.

I love love love gyros (I think it's the tzatziki sauce). In my impressionable youth, a gyro vendor told me to pronounce it, uh.. Eeuuyyu-ro. Now I see that the online dictionaries are giving that as a secondary or tertiary pronunciation, and they prefer Jie-ro. (Rhymes with "pie slow")

Best pronunciation to avoid looking like an idiot? Taz?

yeah, you guys know about "slicing gyro cones" and "doner kebabs"...

...and "pie slow"...yeah birthday boy.

Love the Gyros. But do I want to know what the 'cone' is made of?
posted by mojohand 28 June | 15:02
Not to be confused with the Donner party kebabs they serve in winter in the Sierra Nevada.

I don't get the cone, either. please 'splain.

Mmmm... gyro... one of the few things I like raw onion on... that, and really, really hot chili dogs.

(tum-ta-ta-tummmms...)

Also, the "cone" does disturbingly resemble a leg-o-lamb, I notice...

jon, I challenge you to name me one Chinese restaurant in our hood which serves gyros. You Mr. Hyperbole, you.
