Do you plan to see the new Superman movie? I will probably wait for DVD unless I hear a lot of enthusiasm from friends. I'm kind of meh on Superman as a character anyway.
I'm totally going; my best friend is superhero geek. Actually, he's a geeky superhero, in my eyes...

I'm thinking of skipping it because Bryan Singer decided to do this project instead of the last part of the "X-Men" trilogy, and let some hack fumble that great series.

I'm kinda psyched about a couple of points: Bryan Singer had the guts to do this digitally on a camera that was basically a prototype. And it's showing at the OmniMax (with 20 minutes in 3D, if your theatre accomodates you.)

Then again, there's something about the OmniMax that reminds me of the grossly exagerrated self-importance and conspicuous consumption of the human race. But it's still a fun time.

Saw it last night. In IMAX.

If you're a fan of the original Richard Donner films (Superman I & II), then this one will be a treat for you. Singer has a genuine understanding of the superhero genre and an obvious love for Donner's direction. Brandon Routh is no Chris Reeve, but he strikes remarkably close. Sometimes, particularly once he returns as Kent to Metropolis, the resemblance is spot on. The humor of the Donner films, like the way Superman can work a crowd with a smile and something clever, is still there. And Kevin Spacey is just brilliant as Luthor. The film looks and sounds as amazing and epic as you'd expect. The only weak points are probably Bosworth's Lois -- too often she's given little to do -- and Parker Posey's conflicted moll.

If you read any of this week's reviews, understand simply that Ebert has no idea what he's talking about and Travers (for one) seems to actually get it.

Also, several reviews are choosing to reveal too many secrets. Beware.

As far as IMAX goes, if the difference is just a couple of dollars -- as it was for us -- do it. Just make sure you park yourself closer to the center, otherwise the 3D scenes will be a bit off.

My company is paying for me to see it today, I think. I haven't been to a movie in a theatre in longer than I can remember, and I was sorely disappointed to find out that they don't serve alcohol still.

I know I'll see it before too long, but I'm a little apprehensive. I only thought the Donner movies were ok, not great, so I'm nervous about the way this one's supposed to homage them. Still, it's Singer...

I think this movie will be one of those "nothing better to do" excursions for my son and me.

I'd so like to see it... happy to hear it's closer to Superman I & II.

(I'm quite the trekkie, too... I sooo miss Next Gen)
