Comfortable (and Free and Secret) Public Bathrooms [More:]"The act of finding free bathrooms is an art. For guys it is simpler, but to piss on the sidewalk behind a UPS truck is artless and savage. No, the thoughtful city dweller will seek out and discover well-stocked lavatories off the beaten path, for example, a hotel you can sneak into without alerting staff of your true mission and non-guest status."
Everyone needs this book.

This is so true.

I was a big fan of the bathrooms at the Plaza. They're right in midtown, they're near the park, and they were always spotless and very luxurious. They had those hand towels that were paper but felt like cloth, and a little tray of individual lotions and so on.

Now that they've gone condo, I don't know if they're still available.

My college ID still works, even though I graduated over a year ago, so when in need in the Village, I can always duck into an NYU building.

Friend of mine taught me the trick of using hotel bathrooms when you're in one of those urban No Public Restroom zones. Some of them in SF have started requiring keys, but I've never had a problem getting one from the desk using the "I checked out earlier today" story. You've just got to walk in there and act like you belong.

But, um, I guess that's pretty much what grabbinsand quoted. Missed the MI part. Sorry.
