NSFW: So I'm showing my kids some of the toys I used to have when I was a kid... Why..just...why? (Scroll through the listing, but not at work or in front of anyone you care about). Admin Edit: There was a inline Tubgirl image when you clicked the link, but it's been removed by eBay, so the link is now sfw.
Tetsuo... you should be banned for this.

someone is a bandwidth thief. heh.
posted by quonsar 25 June | 18:51
Hell, at least you got a warning. I'm just lucky my kid was looking away and I was able to slam the laptop shut.
posted by tetsuo 25 June | 18:59
number one reason to never link to someone elses image on your eBay auction page!
posted by quonsar 25 June | 19:05
oh god. damn you.
posted by kyleg 25 June | 19:07
I'm assuming that's tubgirl? Because I'd managed to avoid all the most famous internet horrors...until now.

You have made yourself an enemy on this day, sir.

They should hand out a rulebook to all internet users. The first rule should be: Don't link to a picture on someone else's server. The second rule should be: DON'T LINK TO A PICTURE ON SOMEONE ELSE'S SERVER.

I always chuckle, just a bit, at the tubgirl image on account of the fact that, hey, pooping up into the air onto your face is okay, but THEY HAD TO PIXILLATE HER VAGINA.
posted by yhbc 25 June | 19:14
this just keeps getting funnier. the seller intended to steal the image from this guys shogun site (http://weirdscifi.ratiosemper.com/shogun/index.html). so the shogun site guy substitutes tubgirl for the shogun image, but isn't smart enough to rename the actual shogun image in his html, thereby ruining not only the sellers ebay listing, but inflicting tubgirl on his own site as well. too amusing!
posted by quonsar 25 June | 19:18
What jrossi said. I'd always managed to avoid Tubgirl too. And I think that tricking people into seeing it is really just kind of cheap and it makes me not like you, tetsuo.

(And no, we weren't "warned," jackass.)
posted by mudpuppie 25 June | 19:21
hahah. Funny as hell. On preview: NSFW is the first thing in the post and there's another warning after that. Nobodys forcing you to click it either. So I'm not sure what you mean by saying you weren't warned. Unless you can't read I guess.

i beg to differ. "NSFW. Why oh why? ...not at work or in front of anyone you care about"

which part of that did you not get, pupperz?

and he didn't trick anyone into seeing it - he was tricked himself.
posted by quonsar 25 June | 19:32
Hey, I didn't realize it was some kind of meme like the "goatse". All things considered, if it was the infamous "goatse", I would have put NSFW: GOATSE..but I wasn't privy to "Tubgirl" until now, otherwise I would have put something like NSFW: TUBGIRL. Calling me a jackass makes me not like you, so we're even I guess, unless you feel you need to "trick" me into seeing a dirty image...just keep it even and make sure you give me at least two warnings.
posted by tetsuo 25 June | 19:37
/counts to ten

Or I could just apologize..I'm sincerely sorry mudpuppie, that was not cool.
posted by tetsuo 25 June | 19:39
Well...you're technically right, but NSFW and "makes you want to hurl uncontrollably" are two completely different categories in my mind. I would think that goatse and tubgirl and the like would be labelled upfront here on Mecha.

But now I know better. *shrug* Live and learn.

On preview: Ah. That makes more sense now, tetsuo.

Wow. I've never stayed on that image long enough to notice. And now the next time someone tricks me to see it again, I'll probably take note. Thanks for my nightmares.
posted by birdherder 25 June | 20:05
That was uncool, dude. I'm glad I read the comments first. I've never said this before, anywhere, but I think this post should be deleted.
posted by BoringPostcards 25 June | 20:06
Sorry. I got a bit angry and maybe should have counted to ten myself. Yeah, I did feel tricked into seeing that vile image. And yeah, I feel like I have the right to a Tubgirl-free existence. NSFW stuff doesn't bother me at all -- it usually means nudity or sexual content, and I've no problem with that shit. But am I out of line to suggest that this shit is in an entirely different category? (Pun emphatically intended.)

I've never clicked on a Tubgirl link before, and I never would have clicked on this one had I known what it was. So, Pukey, your snipe about being illiterate (or stupid) really just doesn't work for me.

And quonsar, I understand that tetsuo was tricked into seeing it, and that sucks. But why spread the agony? "I got tricked into viewing tubgirl, here's how -- warning..." would have been more honest.

Tets, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt when you say you didn't know it was a meme (though I find it hard to believe). But still. "NSFW" doesn't really qualify as an ample warning in this case. In my opinion.

Whether it was an intentional trick or not, it's a sucky trick to play on people here. And I won't apologize for feeling that way.
posted by mudpuppie 25 June | 20:29
And I apologize for calling you a jackass, tetsuo.
posted by mudpuppie 25 June | 20:32
No worries. I seriously didn't know about it, hell I only know about the "goatse" because of this place. And in light of everything, I say kill the thread, didn't mean to be trickster.
posted by tetsuo 25 June | 20:38
1. NSFW ≠ "sexy", which is entirely subjective.

2. tubgirl is inherently funny.

3. it is funny when bandwidth thieves are goatsed.

4. this post is funny.

5. welcome to the internet.

6. her vagina is pixelated.

7. it's art.
posted by Wedge 25 June | 20:43
Can't someone just add a Tubgirl warning in the original post?

Admin, please hope us!

Also, ew. And also also, pixellated? I'm not going back to comfirm.

As one who got tricked into seeing goatse...(where do you think the tagline "I don't WANT to be exposed to anus" came from?) I share your pain.

I'm pretty sure that I have seen this one as well but no, not gonna click to confirm. I have come to the sad conclusion that if one is on the internet long enough one's eyeballs will get exposed to both images.

Ick.

If nothing else, I think this thread teaches us about the personalities and senses of humor of individual metachat people. And I don't mean that in a judgmental way. It just is.
posted by mudpuppie 25 June | 21:03
I have the dubious honor of being the first to use the word "tubgirl" in MetaFilter (in a comment) after being misled to her original location, which was tubgirl dot com. (Don't know if it's still there... don't wanna find out.) In spite of the fact that I did NOT link to the infamy, my expressed shock apparently motivated many MeFites to find it, and many of them were upset with ME.

Good times, good times.

You're welcome.

Funny, the three grossest things I've seen so far online (besides war atrocities, that is...) all have to do with butts. Tubgirl, goatse, and that rotten.com image of the guy who lifted so many weights that his rectum burst thru his butthole. That was a real charmer. And all three together, it's almost too much for the mind to process. It's like a trifecta of assholes. Or a hat trick of anus, maybe.

A three-ring circus?

I feel extra extra EXTRA bad for all the eBay users who are now stumbling onto this, completely unwarned. Considering it's toys, that group will probably include some youngsters. So I think it's pretty dickish for the guy being hotlinked from to get back in this specific way.
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 25 June | 21:35
Definitely, TPS.

And the point here -- which I had a big part in obscuring -- is that Tetsuo was trying to show his kids pictures of his favorite childhood toys when he came across the Tubgirl shot.

That simply sucks.
posted by mudpuppie 25 June | 21:39
Before I posted here I sent a message to eBay and the seller, so hopefully it won't be there too much longer.
posted by tetsuo 25 June | 21:39
I actually know someone who had a pic of his car on his server hotlinked to an ebay auction. I think it was showing his grill (which he custom made himself) and the ebay auction claimed they were selling that grill.

He changed the image to some gay porn and put a bunch of slams against the ebay seller on the image. The ebay seller had the gall to email him and threaten him with... something? And he emailed the seller back and told him not to hotlink to his site anymore. It was rather comical at the time.
posted by Doohickie 25 June | 22:22
When you change the image to say, This person is stealing this image from me, that's funny. When you use gross pictures that other people aren't choosing to see, then it isn't funny anymore.
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 25 June | 23:23
A three-ring circus?
iconomy gets off a good one!

While I believe that hotlinkers deserve whatever treatment they get, it is a shame that others end up being dragged into the whole mess when someone goes over the top with revenge. However, I could imaging tubgirling someone if they were a persistant offender. Not the first time, but maybe the third or fourth. One of the weaknesses of the Intarweb is that, when people do sucky things, you only have two choices: either live with it or take action yourself. Everyone has their own idea of what constitutes appropriate action and herein lies the problem.

I think that, once you click on a link labelled "NSFW" you need to be prepared for anything and don't really have the right to complain about something being too NSFW.

MetaChat is great. People call each other jackasses and then apologize sincerely moments later inthread, and then all is a three-ring circus of bunnies again.
posted by sciurus 26 June | 06:15
Godammit, I clicked on the link expecting some unspeakable image of asshole-related grotesquery, and all I see is a couple Voltron robot toys. Can we please add a 'SFW' warning next time tetsuo?
posted by dgaicun 26 June | 06:53
Not that it really makes it better, but I think tubgirl is actually "eliminating" orange juice. Or so I've heard. Meaning it's been debunked. I think. Couldn't find anything about it at Snopes and it's just not something I want to Google.
posted by deborah 26 June | 11:10

You don't know if there is a history of yahoos hot linking his site. Right about the fourth or fifth time some twit drives your bandwidth bill over your limit you start thinking less kindly.

I'd bet that particular eBay seller is going to think twice about hot linking next time though, text images calling the guy a thief doesn't really have that impact.

(I've had some yahoo hot link my site in his avatar he was using on porn trading forums. The gay porn I subbed through refererer redirect was very satisfying and oh so effective.)
