animal planet: While walking to the laundromat tonight, I saw [More:]

1 mama cat and one of her kittens (don't know where the other two were)
1 big dalmation
3 frogs
1 crying child.

I wish I had a frog in here to eat some of the bugs that are flying around...
Three frogs?? Woot!

But for the bug problem, what you really need is a bat or two.

Walking around the East Village the other night I saw a rat, squirrels, cockroaches, and a lotta pigeons dammit.

When I lived in Florida I saw a lot of frogs and geckos around our complex. But no squirrels. There's something fundamentally wrong with that, I think.

We see bunnies around here all the time, seriously. We also see quite a few deer, which I always think is a bit odd for the middle of Southeast DC.

I consider it a failed evening if I don't see a rat on my street on the way home from a night out. It's happened once in 2 years.

I have seen nothing but mosquitoes and enormous black ants for the past two days. There is something fundamentally wrong with an ant so large you can outline its body segments from 10 feet away.

Here it's squirrels, cats, bunnies, skunks and last few nights a possum. I loves possums as they eat the damn squirrels.

We have toads, frogs, salamanders, newts, raccoons, deer, oppossums, chipmunks, squirrels, skunks, groundhogs (FUCKERS!!!) and my favorite, the foxes. Plus there's a llama farm across the street. Hiya, llamas!

I recently thought I saw a coyote, but my husband laughed at the suggestion. Then I talked to our neighbor who also thought she saw one, so it's looking increasingly more likely.

Coyotes are common over in Detroit.

I would love to see a coyote or a skunk. They seem amazingly exotic to me. Then again, so did squirrels when I first moved here.

NZ's only native mammal is the bat

I tend to end conversations inappropriately by saying this, but my dog was eaten by a coyote.

I've encountered a skunk or two. It is an overrated experience.

Oddly pups, I tend to end conversations inappropriately by saying a baby ate my dingo...

My best friend lives about 30 blocks north of me and they had 2 coyotes in their front yard the other night. Apparently they took out some local vermin as well as an unfortunate outdoor cat. This will probably put a dent in their plan to keep chickens in the yard.

Apparently, there are about 100 coyotes in PA, so it's not completely impossible. And the neighbor I talked to (the one with the llamas) has about 20 acres of thick forest behind her, so could be.

We also have a hawk that lives somewhere on our property. The other day I watched it get mobbed by some crows and they actually succeeded in knocking it out of the sky. It tumbled through the maple tree I was standing under and hit a couple of branches before soaring off again. I ducked and covered as I was afraid it was going to land on me. I don't think having a pissed off bird of prey attached to your face would be a pleasant experience.

Living in New Hampshire and Canada, I've seen plenty of the usual suspects - raccoons, squirrels, etc. But also moose, deer, coyote, foxes, otters even.

In Florida I mostly just saw a lot of palmetto bugs and occasionally a giant rat, possums, lots of lizardy things, and a couple of times, alligators and snakes.

I've seen coyotes - there was a pack of 'em who used to chase the bunnies on my old college campus.

They're a lot less scary than they sound (for one thing, they're small. Cougars, on the other hand...)

Holy crap, the comment about the coyote or skunk was my 2500th comment! Woot!

We have a skunk hanging around of late. On my drive to work I regularly see turkeys, deer, (squashed) armadillos and possums, hawks (I have never known a place with so many hawks), and once, an owl. Wonderboy and I saw a coyote the other day. A farmer who lives along my drive used to raise buffalo, then elk, but doesn't have either anymore.

The rural midwest has subtle charms.

There are ducks and frogs in the duck pond, we also see rabbits, bald eagles (there seems to be a breeding pair as we've seen two adults with two or three eaglets two years in a row), red headed woodpeckers, lots 'n' lots of hawks, we hear coyotes at night but have yet to see any, migrating wood ducks, horses, cows, sheep and llamas, oh my!

And hot-air balloons. Yes. There's a large field in the RV park that they lift off from. It's really, really cool.
