Nice PK goal from the roos... though I really think the PK area is too big.

Facts about soccer: Europeans are nasty, dirty little cheaters who bribe the refs, play dirty, smoke crack in the change rooms, and generally suck, especially Croatia. This has been confirmed by a number of reputable studies.

Having said that, Australia will be victorious.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BRASILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
posted by Mrs.Pants 22 June | 14:55
I am telling you, unless they are forced they do not play. The Brazilians, that is. If they are bored they should get out. OUT!

-xtremely annoyed here.

yes, GO BRAZIL!!! Pleeeaaase?!

And of course, you Socceroos fans, do you realize that if (eeek! what a thought) Japan beats Brazil, the Socceroos are out of it. Right? So, just do me the favor and root for Brazil? mkay?

And if Brazil loses to Japan, they go to the next round alright, but they play ITALY! Who wants to see this game so early? huh? So, the Italians hafta support Brazil too.

I am dying here...

I can't give any of my attention to the Brazil game, but I trust they will pick up. Also (as I understood it - or at least as my Serbian colleage explained it to me), Japan has to win by a LOT, don't they?

OH WTF?

If Japan beats Brazil (never gunna happen), then Australia needs to at least draw against croatia. (at which point it would go to goal differential, and the blowout factor comes in)

Still... go Roos!

Scenario 1: if japan beats brazil they get 4 points (now they have 1). In this case if Australia also loses (now they have 3 points) they do not go to the second round. But then Croatia also gets 4 points and they tie Japan. The Japan-Croatia game was 0-0 so that does not solve the tie but because Japan has more goals than Croatia they end up going.

Scenarios 2 and 3: If Japan beats Brazil AND Australia brings tie or wins then Australia goes to the second round even though they get 4 points same as Japan because they beat Japan 3-1.

Scenario 4: Brazil beats Japan....

oh! I cannot do this now. Lemme go! I will tell you later. Love ya!
GO SOCCEROOS!

THE GAME IS ON!

Seriously folks, I'm starting to understand the whole running-around-with-crowbars-and-burning-cars side of soccer.

Aussies got lucky there... I didn't realize it until the announcers pointed it out on replay, but that thing was clearly offsides.

LOL red card.

Well look, the ref has missed two hand-balls against us. Karma, baby.
posted by Jimbob 22 June | 15:42
Damn. Karma just bit me on the arse.

Holy red cards!

GO ROOS!

Done. And we deserved it. Never seen such a messy game - FIFA is going to have that ref's balls on a plate.
posted by Jimbob 22 June | 15:55
Wild game. Unfortunate how the ref lost control at the end; Graham Poll's usually one of the best in the business.

For some reason, the word "Tacoroos" just popped into my head. Thought I'd share.

Actually, I've had a lot of taco-related words and phrases pop into my head recently. Let's see... "mock taco" is one (exactly what is a mock taco?), another is "taco latte" (I don't know what I was thinking). More to come, perhaps.

YES! Do you feel the heat?! Real Ronaldo is back. Not that fat German who was masquerading as Ronaldo.

OK, so the English person I was watching the game with told me that the ref in the Aus-Cro game is hated, very hated in Great Britain for his notorious refereeing skills. From the little I saw he was awful. Sorry for Croatia. Way to go Aussies!

Yaaaay! I just got home and will watch the Socceroo match highlights later. I understand the referee is England's Graham Poll, who is generally ok but can be a bit gormless sometimes where handball and offside are concerned.

Advance Australia Fair!

Go Aussie!

An incredibly tense game, a shithouse ref (I'm sure there are better Pommy refs than that), some nasty play, but what a result.

The Azzuris next though. That should be good.

Today was the day that made it all happen:

There is a possibility now for an Argentina-Brazil final. That will be sweet.

There can be one and only one Portuguese speaking country on the final game. Portugal will play Brazil (if at all) before the final. And of course I hope this will be sweet too. Not as sweet as porto wine, less. I don't like porto wine.

Of course there are dozens of other possibilities, but those two, make me smile. heh! heh! heh!
