Rember when MTV played videos?→[More:] Which one is your fave? I'm currently checking out the Waitresses "I Know What Boys Like".
For me it was Styx and ... ummmm, "Babe" off of "Cornerstone" and seen very very very late at night on (back when it was) WTBS. The credits for the damn thing were as long as the song itself, but it was awesome.
The first one I remember is the Talking Heads "Once in a Lifetime".
GAWD: The guitar riff on Bow Wow Wow's "I Want Candy" makes me so maniacally happy. I think I just had the emotional equivalent to an orgasm!
Speaking of Talkin Heads... "And She Was". Brilliant!
We had a fire at our fraternity during my college years, and naturally, the Talking Heads song "Burning Down the House" happened to be popular at that moment. A theme song was born.
First video I ever saw on MTV was Waitin' on a Friend by the Rolling Stones. Second one was Please Please Tell Me Now by Duran Duran (still love that song).
Here's a list of those that caught my interest (not necessarily my favorite bands or songs, but for whatever reason hits my nostalgia buttons the hardest):
Thanks for this! I was especially happy to hear The Passions’ I’m in Love With a German Film-Star again, although, to be honest, I could’ve done without seeing them…
I was having too much fun watching the before-they-were-super-famous videos: the Kids Inc. video featuring a young Stacy Ferguson (aka Fergie from the Black-Eyed Peas - and of course I had to follow that with Martika's "Toy Soldiers"), the Menudo video with an extremely young Ricky Martin, and the New Edition video with the pre-crack Bobby Brown.
I also enjoyed the ELO "All Over The World" video from Xanadu. Gene Kelly is missed.
I always really liked C'est comme ça by Les Rita Mitsouko (it's linked improperly on that website). Also Massive Attack's Karmacoma is amazing as well - it's on this website (flash, sound), along with many other excellent ones.
carmina: I wish I know what happened to Tanita Tikaram, commercially. I do have all her albums, though ... the new one wasn't released in the US but is quite nice anyway. (Look who's in her top fans.) Oh, know what? She has a MySpace.
