NHL playoffs as guide to world peace? [More:]

I just saw a CBC news report (sadly not online) from Edmonton with Sikhs, Muslims, and Catholics speaking Cree, in thier places of worship asking all to pray for an Oilers victory. It's cool when something can unite us.
I hate to say it but I totally stopped paying any attention to hockey once the Sharks were eliminated after caving to Edmonton when they were up 2-0 in the series.

But I'm psyched to see what Big Joe Thornton does with the team next season!

Over the last 24 years, I have made it a point to actively root against the Oilers regardless of their opponents, but tomorrow I damn well know that I am going to be sitting in front of the TV hoping and screaming to hell that they win. Seriously, the Hurricanes?!?! Oh hell no.

Hockey is one hell of a uniter.

When I was ten or so, I was eating with a friend who called his brother a name in some foreign tongue. His grandma, who was sitting next to him, punched him on the arm and said, "Don't talk Blackfoot, talk Cree!"

That shit was cool.

When i lived in Toronto. I found that the weather would unite the people to a greater cause - staying warm. Anyone will help anyone get free from a snow bank. When waiting for a bus people all huddle together. It was really touching. I don't see anything uniting us together on the west coast.
