I have a new communication strategy for work. When drafting emails, use the same tone of voice I do on MetaFilter. I thought after half a decade they had graduated up to MeCha conversational status, but I'm downgrading them back to my "rational, measured, and impersonally polite" writing style.
I think my mistake was assuming that they, ya know, *knew* me.

I just flabbergasted my boss by telling him, "You know, considering my personality, I think the only thing keeping you from firing me is my dedication and accuracy."

I think I got this from MeFi, so you may have already seen it, but in case you haven't here's zefrank's communication skills video.

taz, that's definitely the subtle undercurrent of everything I send these days.
