OMG! Monkey... (poem, that is). →[More:]
AFTER SCHOOL
We went to see the lady
with the monkey.
Half her living room was a cage,
floor to ceiling.
I held my nose from the smell.
The monkey had a trapeze,
cot, and silver dish with grapes.
It was small with a hood of white
fur around its face.
The monkey didn't like company.
It shrieked and threw grapes at us.
The lady banged on the cage
with a broom.
Her large breasts swayed
beneath her house coat.
She went to the kitchen
and returned with a pop tart.
I offered it to the monkey
who blinked at me
from under his bed.
