Maybe they're acting on the theory that "there's no harm in asking".
Age of consent is already a sticky term (gah.. sticky!) because it supposedly means that a person has the power and authority of an adult (and theoretically, the ability to make good decisions).
Pædophilia isn't against the law, or even wrong; you can dream any dreams you choose. It's the acting on those dreams that is reprehensible when the object of your desire has so little experience, rights or power.
oh.. wait.. that's likely the attraction.
I have a whole speech about the disconnect between our outrage at pædophiles and the casual portrayal of the very young as desireable and sexy in advertising. :) email me if you want to hear it, ok?
"Your honour, the dog was two years old at the time of the incident which as everyone knows is fourteen in dog years making Scooby well above the age of consent"
I'm more troubled by attempts to ban the party, though.
Putting aside legalities, wouldn't one advantage of letting this party exist be that we'd now get to know exactly who and where the kiddie rapers are? Just a thought.
There’s something to be said for linking the age of consent to the minimum voting age. I guess it’s one definition of democracy: to have the right to help decide when & by whom one gets screwed. One of the unsavoury factors here is that particularly persuasive individuals can often find ways to ‘manufacture’ both personal consent & political consensus…
While the concept of a pedophile political party is loathsome, I've got to say, it's a little refreshing to see a political party that actually comes right out and tells you what they stand for.
Not to derail the thread too much here, but I've got to believe that if something like this popped up in the US, it would be the "Nice Fluffy Child Safety Party", with a web site loaded with propaganda on how they supported children's rights, child safety, anti-child abuse laws. And only after you dug through the 40 layers of dummy corporations would you discover that it was actually run by child molesters.
Its kind of funny and sad when a pasty white freak comes out from under his rock to try and join up with other pasty white freaks. Funny in a get-the-magnifier sort of way though.
ensign_ricky, you mean like the Super Adventure Club?
These mixed messages create an incredible rift which not only serves to confuse young men and women, but also poignantly illustrates some serious hypocrisy in our culture. Apparently it is acceptable to objectify and sexualize teens for fun and profit on the part of an adult, yet it is NOT acceptable for young men and women to discover their own sexuality, to empower themselves with it, and to make choices regarding relationships and that sexuality.
Thank you, occhiblue. That woman not only stole my rant, she did it better than me. :((
heh. I would have added a few paragraphs about our modern cultures often infantilizing the children, not requiring them to participate in the work of the home, and consequently not making them a valuable and necessary member of the household. That kind of raising tends to make very large children with no sense of their own worth. People become adults in the rhythm of the culture they live inside.
Then.. I'd tie that in with immature sex kittens (of both sexes) who don't have many ways to feel important vs people who were raised to be ready to be physically close and be responsible for their own actions and unlikely to be used when the time comes.
oh.. btw.... Babyfuckers are scum, no matter how old the baby is. Taking advantage of someone's youth or inexperience is ... abuse.
Hee, sorry reflecked. Didn't mean to steal your thunder. But that essay has been a favorite of mine for a while.
I like your additions, though. Which could possibly also *then* tie in with the whole over-involved parenting thing rampant in the US just now... hmmmm. We invest a lot in this idea of keeping kids innocent and untainted and protected and having-every-need-met, but don't really talk about where that leaves them as adults.
Interesting. I love stringing together my favorite rants into a single theory.
If you string all your fave rants together, you end up writing a book. THEN the film rights, THEN the talk show circuit. Keep 'em piecemeal, or it's you on the couch with Ophrah.
Ahhhh, you haven't even heard my theory that air-conditioning has destroyed America...
(Which, actually, someone *else* did turn into a book. I had been ranting about it for years, then *boom*, my theory's making money for someone else. But I did feel slightly less crackpot afterwards.)
